3/4 of the spray can cap ??? that's nothing, I have seen 3-4 times that whole cap come out if a crap pocket is messed up and clogged with crap. That must be from the gas station, its too less for it to be crap pocket ... I think. You know, I had another guy do almost the exact same thing last year to a vulcan 750 I sold him. 1-2 tanks of premium and the bike just clogged up and died, carb cleaning did precious little, finally the third time I still see brown gas in the carbs and tons of stuff that looks like water ... I empty the tank and put fresh gas and its great.
Premium is a killer, I dread putting it in my truck and I never fill where I dont see that 6-7 cent difference.
Stuff to eat rust from autoparts store ... what is in it ... and how you neutralise it and get it out ???
BTW, you will need to empty the crap pockets really thorougly of that stuff. The GS tank is the hardest to do anything on due to those crap pockets.
I also had 2 other guys ride it ... no 3 others apart fron diaz, and I rode it ~400 miles before and 100 miles after the last job I did - remember the alternator pics ... after that I did a 100 miles literally the day before I trucked it over.
Cool.

Maybe you didn't understand.
That's just what was LOOSE and came out.
The stuff in the tank is eating away at all the crap that's coroded in there now.

Again, I don't believe for ONE second that it's the gas station. I fill at QT and they are filling tanks probably everyday due to the business they do.
Also, only one tank of premium in the bike.
I run premium in all my cars. I had an SRT-4 and it HAD to have premium and always fill at the same spot.
My CSX, Shadow TII pushing 24psi Boost, Daytona Iroc Turbo, Nissan Truck, Mazda 3, ALL premium. Never one problem. (The Shadow was PARTICULARLY picky too. It had to be clean gas or it wouldn't run. I wouldn't run worth CRAP from Shell gas. It liked BP and QT.)
So, no, it's not the gas station.

At this point, I don't really care how many people rode it.
I'm telling you how it is.
I'm not trying to be rude but the bike was not "road worthy" considering all that's had to be done to it.
I appreciate all the tips and help. I'm not here to "sour" anyone's name.
I just want to get the bike that I bought running.

Maybe the "pockets" had crap in it like you said but I don't see how they could have loosened and then corroded the bottom of the tank like it was.
All I want to focus on now is to actually get it running so I can ride it.
I'll chock this up to a learning experience as in a way, it's teaching me about motorcycles which I never worked on.
My other GS never saw a shop and I told you about that Katana I had. (Cycle Stop was good to me)
I may as well learn some stuff as it will help me down the line.

Besides, out of everything, it got me to meet blue05twin and he's a really good guy so now I have a riding partner.

Maybe it went through the Bermuda triangle.  LOL!  ;)
No sweat, I appreciate your input.
We'll get it running on this end and then I'll post a bajillion pictures of where I've gone.

OK well ... make sure it doesn't eat clear through the wall. The tank is thick wall, but it aint indestructible.
The tank didn't feel too heavy when I had it drained and I was handling it ... I cant imagine it having crap in the crap pockets. Remember ... I would have sliced it open in a second if it had needed it much like I have on over a dozen tanks including some I bought from people here. I had that blue swapper, I'd have cut it open and fixed it on my terms, put the blue on it and still had it running.
Anyway, good luck, hope you get to enjoying it.
