I think you still miss the point!!! We buy bikes to go fast, what are they for? You say irresponsible I say realistic! And who do you think you are? By doing something illegal your not in any way condoning said action???  :flipoff: You just did it your self.... I guess it's okay for you to do it just not anyone else? I'll bet you did something illegal on the way to work this morning!!l You can pretend to be righteous but your just a poser. We all speed. Its fun. Its why we have bikes. If you think other wise youre only kidding youself! You would accept your consequences and forfeit your bike? And I never said you should speed at every oppurtunity, just that the reprocussions for doing so shouldn't be so severe. I'm not saying go out and do a buck seventy in your porche, especially not in a residential neighborhood, just that if you do the state shouldn't be able to seize your vehichle and send it to auction! Next time you feel like being someones mama go grab one of your kids and subject THEM to your personal brand of stupidity. You have no right to be so rude to anyone especially when I was perfectly polite. :nono: This is a forum for oppinions not as*ho!es!!!!!!

Elric i think your missing the point.

People arn't saying they don't or havn't sped. What they are saying is that RECKLESS speeding and RECKLESS driving are what this law is there for.

Here in the UK if your on a motorway in the middle of the night and theres barely cars around and your doing say 110mph on your bike most likely the cop will pull you over. Put the willies into you and have you convinced you've lost the bike, lost your license and you will never ride again then at the end of you soiling your undergarments they will simply wave the ticket and tell you that ok it wasn't dangerous to others, if you fall off you are going to kill/hurt yourself but at the end of the day they want to CHANGE your attitude not make you hate cops and hate the law and go out there just to break it.

I will openly admit i've sped. And openly admit i ride with an ex police motorcyclist. We've commonly hit 80mph riding on an unpopulated country lane. However we wouldn't go and tell our best mate that he can go speed because you don't condone it. Its your own choice to speed, if you choose to speed you do so in a manner which is suitable and safer. Police are mostly not out to get you they want you to be safe. On a motorway nearly everyone is breaking the speed limit it would be impossible for you to ride on a motorway without doing it. In this case it isn't unsafe because you are moving at the same speed as the traffic to PREVENT an accident. This is why i 200% disagree with the law here in the UK that when your 16 you can only ride a bike limited to 50cc and 30mph. Its dangerous and stupid and more scooter riders are hit by cars trying to overtake them, or because they met them on a blind corner going slow than a scooter rider does damage to anyone else. You ride your bike for the situation you are in, you think sensibly about what your doing and ride safe. You don't speed through residential areas or cities AT ALL theres too many people, objects, traffic for it to ever be safe. However if your in the middle of nowhere riding down a country road then i wouldn't argue if you pushed the speed limit every so often.

I know. He just ticked me off. Speeding is against the law. I'm not saying we should all pull 180 on the morning commute just that I don't the the state should be able to take your bike and sell it if you are cought speeding. At the same time speed is what a motorcycle is made for, if not we'd all be on 25hp scooters, correct? I just don't want to see people passing judgement when they are guilty of commiting the same crime everyday, no matter the extent. I'm not trying  to be irresponsible merley illuminate the hypocricy. To each his own and not another word I'll say.

Elric, you obviously just glossed over my post.  The law is a good one but should be expanded to include ANY vehicle.  Even if that law is passed, it will likely not deter people from speeding, but at least they'll know what the REAL consequences are.  Whatever dude.  Believe what you like, but I think that someone doing more than 30 over the speed limit should have the fear of losing their vehicle.  Again, here in Indiana, if you're doing more than 20mph over the limit in any kind of vehicle, it's reckless driving, you can have your car impounded, lose your license, get fined, and go to jail.  Any or all of the above.  Florida is behind the times on this law.  WTF, why do I care about your state's stupid law, I'm happy with ours.  Good luck with that, dude.
Something is wrong with my twin...all of a sudden it's V shaped!  Wait, no, now it's a triple!  ...and I IZ NOT a postwhore!

I seriously doubt the impound lot will be full of bikes whose owners were doing 90 in a 60 mph zone.  Hell, I was darn close to that in the "Bikers for Babies" ride a few weeks ago.  Just because a law allows a given penalty doesn't mean it will be enforced in every situation.   I'm sure the cops can tell the squidiots from someone out having a little fun.  But be warned that you are aware of the consequences for pushing the limits and don't be surprised if you're behaving like a jerk that you are treated like one.

I agree with the concept of this law but it should extend to all vehicles and maybe this one shouldn't be passed until it does.  There's a certain bit of hypocracy with the state allowing manufacturers to build racing bikes and sell them as street legal anyway.

What's the deal with the "bikes are created for speed" line?  The GS500 is not famous for it's top end and others, like cruisers, are built for the comfort and freedom of open air riding.  I believe it's possible to be in control and have fun at the same time.

There is NO need to go 30 mph over at ANY time.

Come to Northern VA/MD - 495/95 ... I used to drive both every day.  The average speed ... AVERAGE .. was 80+  One of the reasons I moved to an SV from the GS was because I didn't feel safe riding on the highways because the bike didn't have enough power to keep up and/or get out of the way.

Around here, 30+ is not uncommon - then again, VA is now saying that if you break 80mph, you get to pay ~$5000 over time (extreme example but that's what it can work out to).

What!?!  You mean my GS isn't really a scooter after all? Could have fooled me. It is my commuter. It can hardly get out the way of it's own shadow. I didn't buy it to go fast but it will, eventually, get above the speed limit. I admit I have done it too. 80 in a 65-70 is just keeping up.

Now for fun let's talk V Strom. I rode my dad's a couple of weeks ago up in the hills of northern Arkansas. Talk about deserted. What a blast!! No chicken strips left after that run.

I do know a guy that got off on the same road in excess of 130 into the armco. Helicopter ride for him. He is okay now and still rides but not like that anymore. His riding partner on that day just told me a couple weeks ago that he is looking to sell his BMW K1200. Just woke up one day and thought " I don't need this anymore" To him it is no fun wetting your pants every time you see a cop 'cause you know you are going entirely too fast. He says his bike is no fun under 120. He does work as service manager for a Honda stealer so he gets to ride every day but he will no longer have his own. A wife and two young kids to support had something to do with it too, just because he knows what happens when he gets on one. It was the same on his Goldwing. You just can't imagine. He has made a conscious decision. We all do the same thing every time we get on one.

There are killers out there, in cages and on two wheels. We each decide how close to becoming one we want to be by how much throttle we feed it, how much attention we pay to what is going on around us, how much protection we choose to wear, the list goes on. Make the law even across the board for all then it is up to each of us how we deal with it.
