clutch basket scratched?

I tore my clutch cover off today and removed the plates so I can put the new ones in tomorrow. My friend looked at the clutch basket and thinks something was scratching it. I think it's just the way the metal is. Question is... does the clutch basket come with scratches on it from the factory or is something wrong with mine? It's just on the outside of the basket.

It might be easier to post a pic, but I could not imagine what was scratching it?
