Engine swap...

I'm looking to swap out my twin for a good liquid-cooled 4-cyl that's buildable.  Looking to be able to port, bore, balance, and turbocharge.  What would be a good engine, and are there any that use the same mounting brakets or will I have to fabricate new ones?

you will have your work cut out for you i am sitting trying to figure out how to install hayabusa (gsx1300r) into gs. guess ill have to fire up autocad and try it on screen first. what i am saying to you is try it on screen first to see if it is feasible. anything is possible, but you will encounter many migraines along the way. if you start, dont quit because you have a s%^&*y day. as they say, there is a first time for everything

hey yam . i was told that  a busa motor was smaller than most motors , is that true?

ok, if you are serious...what engine are you considering....?
there is a guy in NC who will install a busa in a GSXR600/750 chassis....$5000 labor plus a $3000 busa engine....plus your chassis

Um, you can buy a new, '03 gixxer600 for that.

Why not just buy a Bandit 600 or something like it?

Even if you did get somethig to work you still just have a Gs suspension...Gs brakes...

As capable as the GS is it's still an entry level 500/ commuter bike.....
I'd just find a bigger bike (I'd find an F2/F3 CBR 600 as the next step....great bikes)

yeah, i know, id have a gs with the gs handling, but with a way more powerful engine. i know it sounds kinda silly. makes about as much sense as someone sinking 20k into a sub-compact car and never being able to get it back at re-sale time. then again i could always get another gs engine and put it into an atv frame. ya know something different to do. hadnt decided what to do yet.  :mrgreen:

Yes I can weld, and I am good at chassis design.  I was also thining about usin the 'busa 1300.  I'm not sure why I just don't go out and get a better bike with the money I'd spend upgrading my GS, it must be that 'first bike' attachment thing...  also I'm working on a mad full faring for it (http://www.geocities.com/rotary_suzuki/ watch the avi, pics don't do it justice) and don't want my effort to be wasted  Besides, why do people put motorcycle engines in cars?!?!(darned midget cars)  Irrational thinking, ahh, the wonders...

DUH!  my point exactly!  Unless a new bike weighs less than a GS(heck if i know)  oh ya, quick question about that... I see on the frame it says 845lbs or whatever dry weight... but people say it's like 300 some pound bike... I"M CONFUSED!!!! are they talking per wheel?  I'm still new to bikes...

back to that power/weight thing....
a GS engine is a very heavy design.....go kart/4 wheeler....many other, better options.
honda F2  is at the top....old enuf to be cheap, still 90-95 HP

Oh BTW what the people have forgotten to mention here is that once you put a different motor in it... its handling will go to shaZam!...Most likely. The running gear strong and over built as it is will not take the extra weight (albeit a few dozen pounds) and extra power and the front suspension...forget it. A GSXR front will barely work on a stock GS, a few extra pounds and double the power and it isn't going to cut it anymore...
In the end you will have a worse handling, heavier, uglier GSXR/hayabrid which breaks more often than the GS or the hayabusa.
