This is pretty insane.  Cliffs Notes: Guy hits deer at 65 on a 1100GS and lives.

Aerostitch has an unbelievable reputation, and the best and most entertaining catalog in the business (stuff you won't find elsewhere AT ALL). Unfortunately, they look sort of dorky, especially if you're NOT on a BMW tourer... and not only are they very expensive, they have a seemingly unlimited selection of extra-cost add-ons and customizations that mean there's no real limit to the price...

Yeah - that's why I have a Cortech leather jacket and Lucky brand jeans hahaha.  I really do need to get some pants this season.

ATGATT.  Air mesh kevlar jacket and pants from cycleport for me. :thumb:

The motorport mesh kevlar stuff does look great, I plan on getting some in the future. I wish there was actual testing on this stuff though, other than anecdotal info from someone who crashed in some gear, you really have no idea how much protection it will offer. People say mesh is better than jeans but worse than solid textile which is worse than leather which is worse than kevlar, but that's all just theoretical. I need to get government funding to start up a non profit gear testing company that can really put this stuff through it's paces.

I wonder if he'll give me his motor?  I need to find a decent size twin to build my Fenrir...

dude f%$k :icon_confused: those bmw motors are nice if I happen across a 650 at a reasonable price I'm gonna grab it and try to work it into the GS :icon_twisted: :icon_twisted:

he slid for days because of the gear he was wearing. had he been in leather it woulf have held up better and slowed him down faster.

Kasumi

I Agree with Led fingers. Leather will protect you more than mesh or textile jackets as leather gear fits tight, hence you dont get rubbing of the jacket or trousers on your skin as you slide. I fell off the zxr on a big patch of mud stretching accross the road doing about 65-70. I slid along way yet no where on my entire body as i slid wore through and it just remained scuffed. I still wear the same leathers today because the damaged they sustained is minimal. The one thing they cant protect you from is raised metal grate covers which broke my collorbone and back. Ouch. My leathers are Frank Thomas ones. They qualitiy isn't all that great on the fit and finish side of things, the rubber tabs for velcrowing pieces up have broken away etc.. but the actual protection is 1st class. And i think you get that from most leathers.

Wow glad to hear the Frank Thomas stuff holds up well as that is what I ride in.
Why didn't you just go the whole way and buy me a f@#king Kawasaki you bastards.

Kasumi

Hehe, its nice to hear when your gear holds up. I dunno whether you've had the same quality issues as ive had such as poor sticking on velcro tabs etc... but its main purpose to protect you works great. I was also sceptical because i bought perforated leathers so theyre abit cooler and thought that any sliding on my front or back would just tear streight through with the perforation but even that held up and i got all over scurffs on my leathers.
