what are everybody's opinion of the 95 Ducati 900ss????
what would you pay for one with 10k miles???
I'm bargaining with my parents for the financial backing (told em if they help I'll stop riding to work/ in the city)

In good condition they should run $4k-$5k.

Personally, I don't like the dated looks of the old 900SS, and would rather opt for the Supersport 1000, which uses the 1000DS engine.



They are decent bikes, no doubt, with adjustable suspension and a solid 900cc air cooled twin which makes about 80HP and 62 lb-ft at the crank. It weighs in at 410 dry, so it's fairly lightweight due to air cooling. Air cooling will make maintenance on it easier, but you still need to make sure you do it on time. No slacking off about valve checks or belt replacements. If you don't do the maintenance yourself, expect about $700 for the 12,000 mile service, and $500 for the 18,000 mile service. Valve checks are done at 6,000 mile increments, and belt replacements are done at 12,000 mile increments. It's possible to do the maintenance yourself, but you may need to buy some special tools to do so. It has a dry clutch, so it will give you that delicious clang clang clang but you can't ride the clutch (hold it in all the time) because it will wear it out faster.

The supersports are dogs compared to their superbikes but they're still a shite sight quicker than the GS.  Ducatis are fun, but they are not a rider's bike like the GS is.  On the GS, you can skip valve adjustments for years at a time and the engine will still run, she'll still start adequately and still be quick enough for highway traffic.  Once the Ducati's valves get out of whack, she's going to need a tow to the dealer, same goes for their belts and gaskets, once something gets a little out of hand, they stop running.  That's not to say that they're not fun bikes, they really are, but definitely not something that you're going to want to ride everyday unless you do the maintainance work yourself, otherwise it gets remarkably expensive and trips to the dealer will be quite frequent.  Read up about ducati guys who keep service records available online and you'll see what I mean, every three months it's something new.  I'd rather a bike that I can ride the hell out of and know that it'll just keep begging for more than a show queen that might not start the next time I want to hit the roads on a nice day, but that's my opinion.  They are pretty bikes if nothing else and certainly unique, but at the same time, good luck finding parts should something go wrong.  You said in a post a few weeks back that the Speed Four was essentially the look you were going for with your GS, check them out man, I had one last year, put 10k+ miles on her and LOVED it.  The S4 is WAY faster than that Ducati will EVER be and handles much better too.  If you look hard enough, you can find a clean S4 for about $3800-$4400, that's the route I'd go if I were you.  Cheers man!

Just lookin around, found it for 2800 obo :dunno_white:  of course I can't friggin test drive it :mad: :mad:  I'm gonna lose my mind, and everything is looking like it'll be good as new in about 5 weeks :mad:  appaerantly I heal fast :icon_rolleyes: one of the not so shitty aspects of my genetics :icon_rolleyes:

thats what I was figuring.  anything Ducati that runs at that price :thumb:  heck, worst case I'll turn it back around for an extra grand :icon_mrgreen:  I've heard these are basically the katanas of Ducati :icon_rolleyes: :laugh:

$2800 is a good price... provided it's in good condition. Like Doug said, if something goes wrong and isn't taken care of, things compoud and cost a lot to fix.

In the little bit of reading I've done, the 1995 was a great year for the 900ss, it still had a "normal" fork setup which means you can have RACETECH go over them whereas the 1996-?  had a different special ducati setup that was worthless.
