Its good to see people figiting with their suspension.

When racing on Brainard International Raceway(known for its shittty tarmac) I have my Katana shock on a rebound of 1. You want the tires to really conform to the road. If you start pogo sticking around corners and such then thats when you need to increase dampening.

As far as preload, you need to check you sag to figure out how much you have. You want to shoot for 20-25mm of sag. Measure from the centerline of the axel to a vertical point, I usually use a peice of panters tape for such marks. The less preload the more sag you will get, and the more preload the less static and free sag you will have. So get a friend and have hime take the vertical measurement on the bike, then sit on the bike in a normal riding postion, putting your full body weight on the bike, then have your buddy take the measurement again and record the differnce, this difference in height is your sag

I don't remember too much of a difference in height when I switched to the Kat shock, but I also replaced the 80 series tires the PO had put on with 70 series so it kinda balanced out.
