so my friend calls me today....and tells me my bike is lying on its side (its parked in front of his house).....*)#(*$)(#@*$)(#@$)@*)$(*#@)($*@#
i go over there and there it is.....showing me its undersides.....it was lying on the right side...the previous owner dropped it a couple of times on the right side already so the engine case is already cracked open and it was hard to tell if anything was damaged.....after i lift it up all these fluids started dripping out the bottom!! it smelled like gasoline and something else....and the bike wouldnt even start up.....it took me about 10 min fiddling with the starter, choke, petcock, kill switch throttle and whatever else moves and finally, to my relief, it started right back up...
that gave me quite a scare.....omg my girlfriend just called and ran out of gas on the freaking highway gotta go

what, your friend couldn't pick it up himself? Just left it there for you to pick up? WTF...j/k.

That totally sucks. No note or anything, just the bike lying there. bastards. Fluids (and difficulty starting) are common after bike is on its side. One thing to check though is the battery-might have spilt some battery acid and that would be a bad thing.

Otherwise should be alright, except for the scrapes. Also check the handlebars and levers to make sure they're straight and not damaged.

Most the bikes start loosing flueds when they are layed down. This is normal. But it looks pretty dramatic, doesn`t it. Also the carbs get full of fuel, that`s why it starts so bad. Best thing is put the bike on it`s tyres again, park it on the centerstand and wait for 5 min. Maybe even drain the carbs. But thank god it started again. Exciting day...... :thumb:

Check the alternator... it might not be charging her battery.  Here's the cheap test- jump start the car and get it running for a while.  Flip on the headlights.  If they're dim or start to dim while it's running, then the alternator's not charging the battery like it's supposed to.  If they shine perfectly well, then the battery just isn't holding a charge.  Alternators can be replaced pretty cheaply by hitting your local chain parts store... they'll usually give you a hefty core rebate on the original because they're very easy to rebuild.

Good luck,

Bummer! I found that when I dropped mine on the right side, and once when gently lowered to the left on both occasions fuel leaked from the locked filler cap which has the potential to be interesting if the bike is over for long. On both occasions the tank was full which was probably a contributory factor to the overbalance. Join the club, look around the forum there's plenty of us with annoying, but mainly cosmetic damage around the Suzuki emblems. I am always that bit more carefull about parking after filling up now. Hope your battery is OK.

Yikes man, rough day. If its any consolation, i had a funny thing happen yesterday:

I was lifting up the gas tank, to take out the air filter (clogged ackk).. ive done this roughly 67 times before... without any fuel lines coming off.. its an art. Anyhow, i hear this gushing sound, and to my delight, fuel is shooting out of the tank!!!! (a hose came off), down my legs, and all over the street!! I pulled the tank up and plugged the hole with my finger.. then i just kinda sat there for a few seconds and thought about it..lol.  I ended up just hooking the hose back up, but not without massive spillage again. It was fun.  :nana:

feel better at all?

Get a flat head screwdriver and you can turn off the fuel on the bottom of the tank, makes things easier than with the fuel lines stretching etc.

Yes i know this, ive had the tank off about 67 times etc etc...

HOWEVER, when you dont HAVE a screwdriver handy, and your outside... its not too helpful. I only pulled the tank up a few inches, its weird that it happened actually.

well the problem now is not my bike so much.....i think the gas smell was the carbs flooded as someone pointed out? and the fluid leaking was PROBABLY rain water from a couple of days ago pooled up in the elastic of my bike cover and when i lifted it, the water spilled out.....thats what im hoping......but it reeked of gasoline.....
i got a new alternator AND battery at auto zone.....i tried installing it today (after working then early morning rescue then work again) and it is a PAIN! took me like an hour just to figure out how to get the wires off the harness.....today i just got the resonator chamber off, and took the wires off, and took the wheel off and then took the splash guards off.......i think itll be really hard to pull the alternator out from under the car.....theres alot of stuff in the way.....

the damn shop manual makes everything sound so damn easy...... Step 3: remove drive belt and oil filter and use a rag to stop the oil flow....pull the alternator out from under the car...careful not to get it caught in anything...WTH! theres so much stuff under the alternator!! okok im just rambling now....

Don't forget to check your oil level too after having it over. I just skimmed the above posts but didn't see this mentioned.
