good idea??

i ahve a few air filters off a xr50 and they fit right on to the intake part of the carb
i was thinkin of taking off the air box and jsut putting two little filters on
has anyone done it?

(insert link to wiki here.. I'm too lazy to look it up. It's in the FAQ. They're just mini pod filters. It works. But is harder to tune. Why not just spend the $30 on a K&N that was designed for our bike? Plus, it makes rejetting easier, as you can go with the established knowledge base contained within.. *gasp*.. the wiki!)

there's a decent chance that a dude with 24 posts has no idea what the "wiki" is...or has reason to care.

Pod filters are fine, birdman, but like mr. niceguy says it can be a bit trickier to tune.  Pods are good for getting good power up top but don't offer the resistance needed down low to keep up a good vacuum.  You can combat this by never idling (like me), idlinig really high, or jetting really rich (robs power).

There are K&N filters that use the stock airbox, and some that don't.

I really doubt that there's going to be any difference between tuning for those that don't, and tuning for individual pod filters. I think the difference in throughput for our little engines would be negligible, you could use the same recommendations.

Not that those are more than a probability cloud themselves...

Sorry, but yes. You really need to rejet for any change that makes any difference. Most of us think you need to rejet a stock bike anyway.
