As fast as it takes for you bones to heal.

Once the pins are out ( 21st thank god) I'm done he said maybe one or two PT sessions but no casts/splints once they are out

well he won't take them out until your bones are healed enough to not need additional support...but healed enough and healed aren't the same, do keep that in mind.  The number of people who suffer from re-breaks is astounding.

haha and it'll also probably hurt as much, if not more than, it did when you broke it to begin with.

I'm basically just trying to get a grasp of what I can practically do while not putting obscene amounts of pressure on it   I heard if you re-break it  shortly after that the pain is literally blinding
If anyone is in the medical field:  I have a bennet's fracture/ thumb, left hand.  Looking like the pins are coming out just over 3 weeks after they were put in
(they were put in may 30 and I'm scheduled to go back for removal the 21st)

Any rebreak is horrible.  You have nice fresh and sensitive nerves floating around and BAM!  Youo bludgeon them with hammer-like force.  Nver nice.

your bones won't be 100%...more like 50%...but you need to be extra cautious.  the best thing to do is to do asa little as absolutely possible for a while.  sometimes that's just not an option, though...in that case keep the strain down to less than a quarter of what you could do before.  it's basically a baby's thumb.

You should try broken ribs.  for six months anytime you sneeze, cough, laugh, hiccup, or inhale they rebreak.  If I had to have every bone in my body borken except one,  that one would be a rib.

Yeah, i did a few ribs once, and a hairline fracture of the collarbone   Not cool

broke my right foot out at a track was 30+ foot in the air. preloaded to much kicked the bike out came down from 30+ foot  and broke the two major weight bones in my foot .. 2 months after i got it off i broke it again in 3 places ( 2 twice in one year my freshman year in high shcool )  borke it again in the 10th grade ... 3 more places ... last time i broke it i went to scholskiez and got my somthing to eat poped in some motrin and went home .. made an appt. for the next day .. two find out its broken in 3 places    .. i'v also cracked my skull and three upper vertabras in my upper spine .... talk about pain

Oh God right After I broke My Pinkie in a Cow Catching Accident It swelled up bigger than my Thumb.Someone Asked me if I wanted to go to the Doctor.I Said Hell No I don't Have the Money and they can't do Anything for Broke Fingers.So I grabbed it and Pulled it back into Place myself. Wrong Move Exlax.A few Weeks Later I started on a Finish Carpentry Job putting Down Flooring.I was the Dude that Got Stuck Face Nailing Up next to the Wall.It took 3 weeks to get all of the Flooring Down.Everytime it started to Heal I would Break it back Loose Against the Floor Nailing. If I hadn't been Starving I would Have Quit the First time.
I really did need Pins in my Left Foot One time.Even my Toenails Turned Black.At that time I was Working with my Cousin Mowing and Landscaping.I had to ride the Big 26HP Woods Rider for a While.I couldn't Weedeat or ride the Scag and Velky.

Yeah this was the metacarpal that's in the palm part of the hand.  It fractured diagonally at the base, where it connects to the wrist.  Then it slipped and most of my thumb was sitting next to my wrist.  The pins goin in at ~90 degrees to the break and stick out about an inch   But it's an expected 100% recovery   And I got this nifty percocet addiction too..........hmmm maybe I should change majors and go to med school, and buy a repsol 1000rr

Do plates count?
I had to have plates installed in both forearms. Broke both bones in each arm. The left were clean breaks but the right was a little worse and the bones slipped next to each other. My wrist was in the middle of my forearm. Already had the left arms plates removed, no problems. Just needed to treat it with care for the following 6 weeks since with removing the screws it could easily break again. Need to have the right removed, they give me problems and almost constantly in pain. Luckily the 2 breaks were at different times. Plus my arms are the same length now.

Other breaks include the left collar bone, sternum, and sinus....these were all at the same time.

Actually a broken bone, at the break, is stronger than originally due to the extra build up of calcium.

Hey Just Makes me tougher.

Every once in a While I have a Streak of Damn Bad Luck.For Example Wed. I got up Here at my House Sitting Job.When I woke up I found out I had Gout in my Big Toe on my Left Foot.I Managed to take the Dog out and On the Way back in the House He Bolted in the Door and My Pinkie Hit the Door and Almost Broke it Again.Then I went to check into work and Put water in the Swimming Pool.When I walked out the Door I had to Shut it Pretty hard to get it to Close.When I did my Idex Finger Got Caught and Almost Broke it.
Alrighty I'm Almost out of Gas and the Closest Gas station is 13 Miles Away.I jump in the Truck and Head down the road Trying to beat the Thunderstorm that was Heading towards us.about 5 Miles down the Road my truck started Vibrating at around 55.Then I Hear the back Tire Blow out. Sooooooooo I Walk down the road 1/2 Mile to call someone to try to get them to Bring my Spare to me.(Actually the First time I left it at home since I was Moving stuff for the Boss) Alrighty I finally got Ahold of my Uncle and all of the Vehicles were gone.So I call the Guy at the Auto Parts up the road from my Uncle to see if He Could.Nope His Brother was Gone and He couldn't leave the Store.During all of this it was Pissing Down the Rain.Since I couldn't find Anyone the Lady where I called from said She would run me back up to get my Tire.Well we got to my Truck and My Cousin and Neighbor was there with my Spare. Well I opened up my Door and Water Poured out. :laugh:Got it on and Started again to get Gas and My Ingnition Switch Broke.Got back with the Beer to Pay them Back for Bringing me my Spare and the Tail Pipe from My Muffler Fell of in the Driveway.

Don't get me started on Damn Bad Luck Day Last week when the Dog Where I work Walked thru Fresh Epoxy Floor Paint and I broke some of the Boss's Glass Bowls.

Apparently Not. Of course I was really soaking the Beer the Day Before. I had a 12 Pack of Corona and a 12 Pack of MGD I had to find a Place for. I Sucessfully Solved a Case.

On A slightly Related Note today.I got Snake Bit. Thats Another Animal I can Add to my Kicked,Bit,Stomped,Bucked,Scratched List. It was Only a 5ft Black Rat Snake.I saw it Crawling from the House into the Weeds.I Grabbed it by the Tail so I could get it Arranged to Pick it up Behind the Head.When I did It Climbed Back up the Foundation and up under the Siding.I wasn't About to let it go and Risk it getting into the House so I held on until it Squirted that Foul Smelling Stuff on me.I still Held on to about 2 feet of it until it tired out and came back out.When it did I got it back to the Ground and was going to try for it's Head Again.Luck would Have it he got me on the Right Index finger in between the first and second Knuckles.When it let go it Left 5-6 Teeth in my Finger that I had to Pick out. At least it wasn't a 8-10 footer.

Oh Yeah! Damn the Bad Luck.

maybe "luck" is a misnomer here. Damn the hilarious results!

On a related note, I would recommend everyone avoid holding any food in your fingers that you are trying to feed to wild raccoons. Also would avoid quick-launching those damn wrist rocket slingshots, especially if there is a really sharp edged rock in it. Muzzle velocity on those suckers is fast enough to really make a loud cracking/thud sound when it hits your thumb.  Damn the bad luck!
