Internet burnout

I'm getting really burnt out.  The last few days it seems all I'm doing is surfing the internet... forums, auto/moto news, finding freebies...

I'm looking for a job and at getting to the hopeless point.  It's kinda hot to go outside and there's not much else I can do cause I'm not working and am broke.  Don't even feel like I should ride the GS much cause gas costs money that I don't have.  This week I've been at the usual sites... gstwin, wmriders.com, and mnsbr which I used to frequent when I lived in MN.  I started reading badweatherbikers.com and a little of advrider.com which provided a nice kick for a little bit, but now it's getting old too.

I just sit and read this crap for half a day, then I feel burnt out, like I should do something else.  But then there's nothing to do or I wonder if I've missed any banter on one of the websites I frequent and I go back to the computer to check.  Kinda a vicious circle.  I eat here and there but eventually my whole day gets wasted away without doing much besides sitting in front of the computer.  I sometimes wonder if I have internet addiction...

Hope I find a job soon before my eyes burn through my monitor or the monitor burns through my eyes

Ok, enough of my bitching, move along, nothing to see here

I hope you find a job soon, too!  Is the house clean?  Been to the gym lately?  Got a lawnmower?
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

LOL Thats funny i sit in front of the computer all day to, it sucks but I can't quit. I've got a myspace page, it last a few weeks, ebay all the time, of course GStwin, and email. They stay on from 8:30am till 5:pm then I go home and look to see if I missed anything. If this was crack I wouldn't be fat! hope you find a job though. I had a guy come to the house selling Kirby vacs, he said he makes 4g's a month, around here thats good money. I might have to switch jobs. Before I got this job I would stay up all night online and all day in the garage (every man needs one).

I sit in front of the computer all day too.  Not for much longer though.  The pins come out in a week, then I'm back to work :thumb:

It happens to the best of us. Whenever I have too much free time I get bored and keep checking and recking the same forums, blogs, etc. to see if anything new is happening. Right now I'm actually doing that since I'm unemployed until late July. But let me suggest a couple diversions which may not be ultimately helpful but may help you keep your sanity.

Have you worked out lately? me either. I don't have a gym membership, but I do have a Russian kettlebell. If you don't have any exercise equipment it doesn't really matter. Do 100 pushups even if it takes you ten sets, do 300 abs even if it takes you 30 sets, then take a run for a few blocks, maybe half a mile. Each day that you aren't sore try to bump it up. The numbers aren't important, what matters is that you're using a small amount of time for something productive. Hell, spend some time tanning. It will get you away from the computer and make you feel better about yourself.

I know this might sound right for you, and it might not be. But give it a shot, before you know it you'll have a job and (possibly) a more attractive body... perfect for picking up the ladies......

Tony Robbins is a good resource in this area.

His materials are insanely expensive but if you do some homework (online   :o) you can glean a lot of useful information for free. (his talk at the TED seminar is clutch! google video: tony robbins ted seminar)

i.e., in one video on Google, or maybe it was a limewire audio d/l, he talks about "state". i.e. being aware of and consciously choosing your state of mind, physical state, emotional state. Going to the computer for online escape is a state you are accustomed to, its a way to escape, its in your comfort zone. Doing something else is scary because you have to actually deal with or think about your situation. So you sit down and next thing you know, 5 hours have passed... we've all done it. Staying up late, escaping mentally, cracking out on the interwebs, oversleeping, overeating, habits like this can be hard to break cause you have inertia that has to be broken. Gotta do something different.  Right now, take steps toward your goal, no matter how small. Get the fock out of bed tomorrow morning and do 100 situps and 100 pushups and 100 squats. Then you'll be sweaty and hungry and thirsty, and ready to kick ass and do some business.

Turn your computer off and get in the state of doing something else. Working out regularly will change your whole world. Start getting busy and you will get MOMENTUM. Sit down and circle at least ten jobs in the classifieds that you think you have a chance at. Make a list and call them. Check online too but dont let yourself get distracted. Type up a resume if you don't already have one. Put on some clean clothes and apply at 2 places today no matter how hot it is.

Seriously, Tony Robbins knows his stuff. Its not just rah-rah, he really gets into the specific psychology that we function with. Just hearing him talk about the "state" concept has reduced my internet/insomnia substantially. I'm like "i'm in the web-zombie state. f that."

Hope this helps. I know how it is, it's freakin scary and depressing. I have been there many times, sometimes very near the bottom line too. Just gotta do it. Get going, and you will start to get results and feel a hell of a lot better.
