I'm thinking about buying an 87 gix750 thats been streetfightered.  Any opinions???  It's been re-jetted and has a full yoshi system.   My real question is : the guy let it sit over winter with a full tank of gas.  Will I be able to just drain the tank and force feed the carbs seafoam and get it up and running well enough to make it home???  300 miles????  It's a pretty damn good deal overall, I think.

The Buddha

Yea ... force feed the damn thing with yamaha carb cleaner, seafoam is OK too, or just plain spray carb cleaner and gasoline and load it in the back of a truck.
A good 300 mile ride in the back of a truck will soften everything and may even get it cleaned out so you drain it and it will run. My maxim 700 was that way. I pulled it off the truck and it ran.
BTW, if it does run, the guy isn't lying. If not, he prolly lying. Sorry, no way to tell before buying it.
Have you opened up carbs that were filthy outside and sparkling clean inside ... I have and this is why.
Cool.

He says it'll run it's just rough as shaZam!.....   I think I can probably get it going smooth pretty quick.  He said I can work on it in his driveway and he'll help.   I'd really like to ride it back......

Oy ... you are one high risk dude aren't ya. This on a hand with pins in it ...
Anyway, if its rough ... just riding with Heet (or somehting with cleaning power ... STP or somehting ...) can clear it out in a few miles ... OTOH ... it may be a painful few miles. Especially if you get runover by an SUV or somehting.
Cool.

The pins are coming out thursday and I was thinking about picking this up sunday taking the long way to hilton head island with the family     I was figuring if it's running I could probably clear it out enough to get by with something off the shelf. :thumb:  I'm gonna try not getting hit by anymore drunk rednecks.
It runs in the family.....On my dads side we're all tards.... I'm the first on two wheels but we all have an unnatural attraction to firearms and explosives :o :o  In the Army we refer to it as the bullet proof phase.  When a young grunt survives combat and believes he's indestructible........my family just never grow out of it

For the love of God man. . . Buy a bike that is newer and that runs!  For just a couple more grand you can have a nice running bike that will last you years.  That bike right there is 20 years old!

Yeah I have thought this way before as well, don't count on an unknown quantity to get you further than the driveway.....

Maybe you will have more luck in this department than I. Come to think of it every used Suzuki I ever bought was  POS that f%&ked me on the way home if I lived more than 10 miles away. Every Honda I have bought has been ride and go, mixed results with yammies and kaw's.

Be sure there is someone you can reach who can pick you and the bike up if you decide to try this.
Why didn't you just go the whole way and buy me a f@#king Kawasaki you bastards.

makenzie71

why would sitting over the winter make it run rough?  that's not long enough for any serious damage to occur.  if she's just a little fouled it'll clear up after a couple heat cycles.

This is just a project bike that I'd like to get running until insurance pays out.  Their being dicks and wont pay my property claim until my medical is settled and that will be at least another month and a half.  Then add another month for them to actually pay.......When they pay I'm getting an SV   or a 650r.  The carbs are gummed from what he says :dunno_white: :dunno_white:
I rode my 500 home 100 miles without a problem :thumb: :thumb:

OK, theres one more I'm gonna look at on my way up.
It's a 1994 zx6e.  It's been bored to almost 700cc :o :o but the fairings are f%&ked :icon_rolleyes:  It comes with a brand new front/headlight :dunno_white: :dunno_white:  I found some stock 636 fairings that look nice that I may be able to work on :dunno_white: :dunno_white:
