The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

Spring has automotive paint and a clearcoat (Kustom yellow, and Kustom clear)
you could use PPG, or Omni, or Shopline from tri-city paint here in San Diego.
The collar, and shock body are just aresol [semi-gloss black (high temp, for grills)} and Silver (aluminum color)
I am painting the body this week.

some more updates:

after clear coat

The tank is in progress. I am having trouble with the primer( the next coat of base wont adhese at the same rate to the primer and the previous base coat, so it crinkles  )

What the rear wheel looked like before:

and after powdercoat, and some polishing of the sprocket carrage, and sprocket:

This is the 1989 GSXR 4.5in rim, with a michilin pilot h2 race.

This is the front rim with the disk repainted gold, and a die grinder with a  3mpad buffed braking surface. ( Michilin Pilot)

Added the swing-arm, and shock:

Put on the front end. Sorry for the blurry pic I couldn't focus, I had been drinking

Added the rear wheel, and swingarm spools. Also notce the CDI box wiring route ???
Is that correct? I think I will re-route it.

heat shrinked parts of the wiring harness:

On my tank I used self eching primer over the complete tank. you can get it spray cans at real auto paint supply stores. Got mine at NAPA it's the paint place in this town.

Looks great, kind of wish I went all out!

Jay_wolf

On some bits , i didnt use primer ,just rubbed it smooth , then used a coat of Paint , then , light coats of more paint , worked really well , but its not on a bit thats gonna get brushed much ,

It was a Tiny Bit , so its all good , hmm would be nice to be a painter tho

WOW your doing exactly what I wanted to do to my GS! I'm jealous! The black frame and wheels are gonna look fun bags! Keep this thing updated!

Added some heat shrink to parts of the harness, But this routing doesn't seem right. I believe it is the stock configuration, but it is God awful ugly. I think I will reroute it.

loose ends, and connectors were bundled, and heat shrinked.

How much did the powder coating cost you?

ratz

$335 total for Frame/swing arm, and rims
The frame and swingarm was $225. (semi-gloss black)
The rims were $60 each. (gloss black)

She knocked off a few bucks on the frame, and rims as I was a repeat customer, and I whined about the price.

I'm not gonna point out that $225 for the frame and swingarm and $60 per rim doesn't add up to $335...  I'm gonna keep that to myself.

Nice job!  Looks good, I'd love to do that to my bike with the frame and swingarm.  I'd also like a bigger tank, but that's another story.  On another note... I have to admit though, I'm CRINGING looking at that pic of you riding in shorts and tee shirt, LOL

SWEET JESUS!
That's REALLY nice!  :o

Can't wait to see it finished!

Bought a Gold chain (bling), cut it to size, and installed it.

Rerouted the CDI wires.

Completed the base coat on the tank.

Put on the front end, carbs, airbox, seat lock, kickstand, and clutch cover.

If I have time tonight, I will try again to put the clear coat on all the bodywork. I had to strip off the old clearcoat, as it had imperfections in it.

Did you have to remove and replace the bearings (with new ones) when you got the wheels powdercoated?

I just called a shop and he said that I'd have to do that.

You will indeed. The bearings have to be removed, and chances are about 99% that you're going to damage them when removing them. So just order the new ones.

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

Sorry...

Just to be clear, I'd need parts 2 and 3 on this diagram:

Right?

Thanks
