I have been trying to decide on what tail to put on my 96 GS and almost decided on the Ducati Monster tail when I found this site about the Hyosung models.  Their bikes are beautiful (Korean as they may be) and I have read a lot of chatter about people wanting these so here they are...

I am not positive so don't take what I'm saying as the bible (haha...cuz THAT'S GOTTA be true) but since the frames look so similar it should be a relatively simple bolt up.  Enjoy!

No not really.  Mounting tabs are a little different but the structure is really similar.

I would like to get the tail section I like the two step look, I also bet I can find a rear cowl to cover the passenger seat.

Personally, I don't know if I'd buy from Hyosung- they're just too new to the US market, and I haven't read many favorable comparisons to the models they compete with.

We have had them in OZ now for a few years mechanically they seem to be sound even one of the Italian brands are buying the motors and frames from them for there own bikes. The biggest let down for them is suspension and brakes both of which are made by them the older models were a bit dull but the new ones look the goods but I'll still stick with the GS.
BTW I think they were about the 5-6 biggest seller in OZ at the moment (but don't quote me on that) :thumb: :cheers:

I live next to the largest Hyosung dealer in the states. I made my way up there to see if I could hack some parts off it. The actual underseat storage area was decent. If you found a wrecked bike, bought the subframe, rear plastics, seat, and possibly the shock, you could make it work. The seat will match up to the 01+ with only slight gaps, however, the hyosung tank will also fit directly onto the GS frame so if you were worried about that, you could swap that also. The hyosung tail is significantly higher than the GS tail. I don't know how this would affect the riding position...

Mak that new 650 is VERY cool, and check out the Italjet Grifon as well, it's using the Comet 650 Hyosung engine...



I love that Ducati-ish look with the spoked wheels.

I'm torn on the Hyosungs, I actually test rode a Comet 650 at a dealer in Brooklyn.  It was gorgeous, and I loved the engine.  CityCycles, they are also a UM dealer (which rebadges Hyosung and has better paint schemes).  I also thought it handled really well on my short ride.  But there were some issues with people having blown engines due to some valve trouble on their '05 models.  They seem to have it sorted out on the 06' and 07's (I read somewhere that they had a bad batch of valves from Japan in 05') but I'm taking a wait and see approach before I give them a harder look again.

Here's a pic of the UM, they went with standard bars instead of clip-ons on their quarter-faired version, I actually like it:

The Italjet gives me a hard on every time I see it.

This is the benefit of a Korean manufacturer producing lower-cost knock-offs.  To get something that looks like the Italjet or UM bikes from Zooki and you'll spend $10k.

And first gen SV's, the engine that the Comet motor is based on, had bad bearing and valve problems, too.

I guess that I need to check back on here more often... its another hyo thread.  :thumb: Just an FYI about the italjet, it uses much more that just the motor.  It is basically a naked gt650 with different panels and wheels.  In regards to the suspension being crappy on the Hyos, that is really a toss up.  Don't expect it to match up to new model supersports but on the other hand it easily trumps anything that the gs could hope to do and I have had no problems with mine other than enjoying it too much  :cheers: .  The brakes however, they really suck.  It's mainly bc the stock lines are so darn soft that they feel like a sponge.  If you replace the lines with stainless ones though it pretty well solves that problem.  As far as the valve problems, it has not been verified for sure yet but the current word is that there was a batch of bad valve guides that have been causing all the problems.  Here is a list of the range of affected bikes: GT 650 (naked) Between KM4MP51A??1100000 and KM4MP51A??1103538 - GT 650 S Between KM4MP51B??1100000 and KM4MP51B??1100863 - GT 650 R Between KM4MP51C??1100000 and KM4MP51C??1101196.  Most of them are 04s to early 05s.

Now on to the original thread direction.  IIRC - I believe that the site you posted is run by a guy who gets parts shipped out directly from the Korean supply houses and therefore he is normally cheaper and actually mush quicker than getting things from US dealers.  If that is indeed the guy I am thinking of he has had nothing but praise come from customers so far.

Hey cool... the one I test rode was an '07.  It really was killer.  It has to be a bit frightening for you though owning an '05 though! Did you have any issues with the valves, or have you replaced them?  I remember some people on KORider.com blaming the AIS system... I'm glad at least it was finally let out about the valve guides.  Seems like there have been ZERO issue on the 06 and 07's so far...

Anyway, it's frightening how much that 250 looks like the GS, at least the frame.  It'd be interesting to see someone try the tail and the gas tank out on a GS if they fit.

Mine is outside of the listed range so I really have no worries about it.  Besides, since I didn't actually pick mine up till last September it still has 1.5 yrs of warranty left.

I LOVE those wheels...it's apparently and vaporware bike, though...never existed.  Every time I see a pic of the 650 Grifon (new) my nuts get a little bigger...

I know, me too... I've been searching that bike every so often just to see if it's finally seliing anywhere.  I guess we could just grab a Hyosung, put some spoked wheels on it... and maybe a Duc tail would fit....

Those Fischer bikes are beautiful, but I think they are missing the price-point for a 77hp carburated machine that weighs over 380 lbs dry.  $8,400 including freight?  That' bike has to have some amazing features to warrant a $2000 price bump from the Suzi and Hyosung models using a similar motor.

Having said that, I think I would actually make the 300 mile trip down to the Delmarva to demo that bike if I could.   8)
