My brakes started howling on the front of my GS,and felt mushy.I planed to rebuild my front forks and upgrade my brakes. To the building we go.WEEEE!Taken my front end apart was so easy.Replaced my brake rotor, put new EBC HH pads in,and prepared myself to remove the forks. This is where sh!t went down hill,FAST.Broke loose the upper triple clamp bolts, grabbed my small flat head screw driver, and pryed the protective rubber caps off.HOLY F@@KING SH!T!!!!!!WTF HELL IS THIS DUMBASS SH!T???????!!!!!!!!

What ever you do,DO NOT DO THIS TO YOUR PROTECTIVE CAPS THAT FIT ON THE FORK CAPS!

This caused my caps to become pitted. The hole to fit a rachet in,is nearly round, and the tops of the forks rusted to the caps. The rust bled across the caps leading me to believe I had some F'ed up steel caps in the forks.

To remedy this,I used a (8-10mm) 1/4 inch wide sharp chisel to notch the cap.I notched the side of the cap about (2mm) 1/8 of an inch deep.I them used an old screw driver with a worn out flat tip and a hammer and tapped it around till it loosened. Then I was able to stick the screw driver in the center and unscrew it.I didn't have much preload, but beware, there is still enough to send the spacer across the room like a missel.Another thing,DO NOT PUT ANY PART OF YOUR BODY OVER THE CAPS WHEN YOU REMOVE THEM. They will take your eyes out.I wish I'd have taken pictures, but my helper didn't have much time to help.If you don't have accsess to a bench vise,a second person is wonderful to have.Hope this helps someone out there.

Some jackass used rtv(sillycone) to hold the protective rubber caps on.Here's the mess.
PICS are GONE never TO return.
