Replacement hoses from tank petcock?

I've been using 5/16" hose from the petcock to the carbs, and that works fine, but apparently it's time for me to replace the hoses from the tank petcock. List price for the stock hoses from Ron Ayers is about $30 for the pair.

The problem, of course, is getting something decent with thin enough walls for the two tubes so close together. I have some hose from an old VW that's supposed to be "7 mm", but it turns out that it's not nearly large enough.. I'd have to fight each one for a half-hour to get it on, and I'd worry about fuel starvation anyway, it's so much smaller.


Anyone found a reasonably-priced GOOD replacement for these? I don't need transparent, colored or any other bling, just a quality, reliable hose that fits.

I just used 5/16" thick-walled fuel hose and clamped it with EFI-type (bolt not worm) hose clamps.  It doesn't seem to collapse and there IS (barely, but there is) enough room for it to fit.

I used Tygon 1/4 (ID) X 3/8 (OD) line.  I bought it on Ebay and bought twice what I needed since it will eventually have to be replaced again.  It came to $1/ft including shipping.  Ultra flexible, no hose clamps needed and it looks cool (that wasn't a requirement for me either, but it does).

It wasn't fun or easy slipping it on the tanks' spout, but it works.

So far I've logged about 1,500 miles with it, and no problems.

Oh, and I also lengthened those two lines to the tank by about 8". They are coiled (not quite a full coil) about 5" diameter, and that makes pulling the tank a breeze.

For those with 2004 - 2007 bikes, the frame petcock requires 10mm hose (3/8) but the connection to the petrol tank is a 8mm (5/16).

So use 10mm (3/8) hose and clamp them down real hard at the tank.

Order Tygon Tubing in the appropriate size (1/4" id works well for older than 01? whenevr the petcocks changed) from www.mcmaster.com

Best prices and reasonable shipping, may even have a local warehouse you can pick up from.

Same thing I used. Definetly not a picnic to get on but it does the job.

search fuel tubing and it should come up, i didnt remember seeing many types

you know, I went down to the dealership, showed them what I had, they gave me about 4 feet of it, and I paid them about 5 bucks.... and I just cut it to fit....


The 8mm/10mm thing was a Buddha Loves You, but to get it over the super fat end I just used a hair dryer to heat up the line.... eh yea.. added stress so what....

Yes.  It is fuel line, used by model airplanes, weed trimmers, etc.  It DOES seem to eventually harden a bit due (I think) to the heat.  But it's good for 2-3 years.
