Took the FNG from work for a tour south of Tampa. Highways, I-75, I-275, Sunshine Skyway, etc.

At one stop he said 'that liter crotch rocket really move when it's boiling huh?'.

He's got a 1500CC kawi-kruiser.

Later on he said something about riding behind was more fun, as the GS's exhaust note sounded 'really fun and fruity'.

At our last gas stop I mentioned it was a 500cc, and he was all "WTF?!".

This after cruising 55, 65, 75, and 85-90 MPH with packs of mixed 2ups.

I'll be outside cleaning and inspecting my 'new' 'literbike' today. If it looks like and little old GS, it's prolly just your glasses that need cleaning.  :thumb:

They are a little surprise packet!

My original plan was to get a GS500F then upgrade to a Gixer once I had my full license but atm I am loving this bike too much to get another.

Its a great learner bike that has more than enough grunt and torque to make it a keeper  :thumb:

i my first bike was a suzuki gs500 and i love it. i wanted to get a bigger bike but i think the gs500 have a nuff power for me.i wanted a 600 and was about to get one but i'm so in love with the gs500 i went got another one.think about it most people get a bigger bike for more power and with more power you want to see want it can do.so for me suzuki gs500 is for me.one other thing,i rode a buell blast and it 's not to same but every body  like diff. things.

My first bike was a 98 GSXR750SRAD Black n Gold limited edition.Bought it in late 97.like august I think.Been riding my friends crusiers wanted something more.A month later I sold it to a guy before making the first payment.Went back to riding harley's and Ltd's.I am happier with my gs cause I can handle it.my gixxer was to much for a first bike.
PICS are GONE never TO return.

:o :o :o  If I had started on a gix750 I would have made 3 miles from where I bought it all the way to the scene of  the wreck on one wheel :icon_rolleyes: :icon_twisted: :o :o :o  I am so glad I got the GS as a first, but I'm going up now :icon_twisted: nothing insane I just want about 100hp :dunno_white:

I'm 30 and have been riding some form of MC since I was 9 or 10.I just wanted some thing cool when I was younger. Now I just want fun at a reasonable cost.If I buy a gix,it'll be because I got a deal I couldn't pass up.  :thumb:

Ehh... I'm dumb and 21.....I just want something that'll look good streetfightered and hold all the guys from base I ride with ( they usually hit 140 on straights)  ( bring it at least I realize I'm a squid and I wear full gear too :flipoff: :flipoff: :flipoff: )

140 eh ?

Ya, I knew a guy that _was_ a pilot till a crow smacked him at 45.

Ya, 140 is safe and sane.

up the twitsty the GS is a really good bike, if you have skills you can keep up with most of the sport bike when you are going up hill, pass them when you go down hill.....

Recently up graded to a GSF1200........heaps more power, but not much fast up the twisty.
A crash is the result of the rider's mistake, so don't blame the bike

A rider should be able to control the bike but not controlled by the bike, becuase on the track you don't want to DNF and on the road you don't want to lose you licence

one track day a guy on a race ready GS decided to try and keep up with my bunch r1s gixxers and me on my TLR1000.  i personally lapped him 3x  :nono:  it is delusional to think a gs can keep up with the big kids.  the GS did however keep ahead of two buells on 900 and one 1200

I SOOOOOO wanted that TLR from Craigslist , but the guy never responded to emails after the first one (where i told him i was bringing my buddy from the dealership), then he listed it again saying it was faster than a Hayabusa , etc ... I said screw it , i'm gonna get something new later
As for the GS on the track ... it was still probably fun as hell - beating the Buells was just icing on the cake , i'm sure he didn't think (or i HOPE he didn't think) he was gonna outrun all the big bikes anyway  :dunno_white:

Race on a tighter track ?

There are insanely tight EU tracks, or Japanese Cops that can really ride.

Just going insanely fast doesn't do much for me.

Doing puuuurfect single lane U-turns, sliding U's in sand/gravel/gremlin-guts/whatever is pretty darn cool in my book.

Now show me a stretched busa doing a U-turn without leaving 2K miles worth of rubber on the tarmac. ;)

Running mostly stock (Progressive springs up front, stock POS shock in rear with 27K miles on it), Yosh pipe/pod filters, I was passing *most* of the other riders in the C group at Willow Springs big track.

Of course they were blowing passed me on the front straight, and aside from the control riders, I was hanging with most everybody in the twisty section.  I'd need better rubber (was running a Pilot Activ out rear, with a Pilot Road up front, long story...had a flat the night prior to the track day so had to borrow the Activ) to go any faster.

My history of racing MX helped a lot.  In a 20 minute session that I was the first rider onto the track, it took the control riders 5 laps to catch up to me, and only one guy actually lapped me.  They are capable bikes, to a point.  After that, you just run out of chassis stability/brakes/engine.

FrankiG I own both a GS500 and a 984 Buell and there is no way a GS will stay ahead of a Buell on the track or street ! It has 1/2 horse power and weighs more plus the buell was designed from the ground up to Handle. I am not knocking the GS its a great bike but the buell will beat it in every catorgory even gas mileage.

That's what I was thinking... on the track it seems it's a lot more about the rider than the bike... except in the straights.

The GS is going to edge out the XB in fuel mileage though... when was the last time you got 66mpg on your Buell?

p.s. xb9ser: Are you on Badweb?  I've just started reading there a lot.  I've been dreaming about an XB9S* or XB12X, I really need to get to a dealer and take a test ride... and start saving

What's with Gixxers?  Are they real "crotch rockets?"
I was thinking GS500F, but I am not getting any younger....
My Concours (997 cc) just screams above 6 or 7000 rpm, I can't imagine how it is to ride a Gixxer.    :o

Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.
I live in theory- everything works there!

xb9ser

manofthefield yes i am xb9ser on badweb. The best mileage on my GS has been 55 mpg and the best on my XB9S has been 64 mpg rideing with some harley riders.
