Smaller carbs????? HELP!!!

What drawback would mounting smaller carbs have - for instance swapping the stock GSer with Keihin CVK30?

More low end torque, and less top end. But that is CV's for cv's, put in smooth bores inplace of CV's and the whole deal is out.

Attempting to remove the VERY stuck pilot screw, I ended up breaking a bit of the head off - I then attempted to remove it with an EZ out only to have the jet break apart and the drill bit punctered the plastic piece that would sit below the pilot jet...

Other than replacing the entire carb, is there a cure?

HELP!!!!

If you can clear-out the main jet orifice and tap a new one in, you may be able to seal the tap, and the extra hole you made with the EZ-Out, using a good marine-grade epoxy (not JBWeld, sorry).

Although good epoxy is fairly resistant to dissolving in gasoline (as much as any plastic is), if you can find some terathalic resin, that is the recommended resin for gasoline (but only sold in 55 gal. drums). If you have a commercial fishing yard nearby, check there; it's used to build gastanks into lobster boat hulls, etc.

However, some custom motorcycle gastanks are made using regular marine epoxy (West Systems, MAS, etc.) on fiberglass over a foam core, so regular epoxy would probably work.

Or you could look at it as an invitation to have 2 sets of carbs. Now you can clean one while you ride the other

Duuuuude shut it... You might ruin my fun... Broken carbs are a lot of fun, as long as they dont have to be on your bike...

The pilot jet hole will not allow the pilot jet to fully seat now.
I put the bike back together and started it up. Seems fine in the upper revs - runs like crap in the lower revs (bogging down, losing power, idling issue...). I can seal the hole I made, but the pilot jet still needs to seat properly, correct? I mean, I can't just stuff the pilot jet into the hole and hope it works out, right?

UGH - if I did need to reapalce anything it would be the entire carb on that one side... Bikebanidt charges $250+ for a single carb assembly... wonder what the salavage yard would charge?

Anyone have an entire single carb they can part with... thanks.

there was a guy here about 2 weeks ago and he was selling 2 rejjeted carbs for cheeeeeeep...go to the for sale forum on this site and find that topic...also, you could go on ebay and try to find mikuni carbs

Rolly,

LA Cycle Salvage will sell GS carbs on a trade-in basis for around $70 I think. The guy there, Zig, will go through the new carbs and set the floats as part of the deal. I did the same thing you did last Spring (strip a pilot jet) and the 70 bucks I spent on a new set has proved to be the best investment I've made in the bike as it turned the bike into a bike that I can use on a daily basis.
