I just realized I have one partially broken (mostly broken) tooth on my rear sprocket... is this something I have to fix ASAP?  I can see some overall wear -- and I'm pretty sure it's original equipment (26k miles).

I will order another one -- just want to make sure no one says "FOR GOD'S SAKE-- STAY OFF UNTIL YOU FIX THAT!" :cookoo:

Hmm... What would YOU say!? :)

The other teeth should be able to guide the chain well enough on their own. Depending on how long it's been broken, you may want a new chain too!?

You could still ride but the potential exists that more teeth will break. Depending on how bad the other teeth are worn, slipping chain is possible along with chain failure. I would not ride that way but I have seen others ride with worn and broken teeth without problems.

Steel or aluminum sprocket?
Common sense in not very common.

We don't know how your alignment is, or what the condition of your front sprocket is.  Also, how is your slack?
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

I got my TL with a couople missing teeth on the rear...rode her for a year that way because I couldn't afford a good sprocket/chain set (I was under the impression at the time that I had to spend $300 to do it).

It needs to be addressed as soon as you can address it, but the bikes potential to just spontaneously explode is minimal.

26K miles on the same sprocket... hummm, Nah ya still good for any 24K miles..

Everyone knows sprockets and chains last 50K miles on the Gs500..  :flipoff:
