Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

I especially love the ending where the guy driving the car claimed that he was just braking and he didn't know why she lost control. Gee maybe it's because you spun out and she ran into you?

This is one of those situations that makes you realize that while it's almost always impossible to avoid an accident, your instincts rarely tell you to do the right thing and you have to make snap judgements that may not work out. If you look at it in retrospect, if she'd swerved left (assuming a clear lane over there) she could have avoided him. Instinct tells you to move away from what's coming at you though.

But from what I can tell, and it's hard to say really, but I think she could have avoided him or barely tapped him with some better braking. If you watch it closely it really doesn't look like she's on the brakes much at all. It looks like she basically got off the throttle, slowed down slightly and tried to steer towards the gap on the right. If you watch as she's moving to the right, it doesn't look like she's slowing down much at all by then, at least not anywhere near as fast as I would expect any motorcycle to be able to slow. Really hard to tell from a video, but to me it looks like if she had done a textbook emergency stop she might have chalked this one up as a close call rather than an ER trip.

looks like a accident pure and simple to me.  you guys talking about guns is the one thing that bothers me about this forum,  a bunch of small man complexes i would say.

Franki,
Your blind.  It is quite obvious the driver of the car was f%$king around trying to be cool in front of a bike.  And he almost killed someone in the process.  The rider.  That is the kind of retard scum that doesn't deserve to live.  And down here in good ol boy land you would be hard pressed to find a jury who would convict if the rider had shot and killed the driver when he approached ' I didn't know what the hell he was doing, I figured he had tried to kill me once now he was coming to finish the job'

Down here in Caleeeforn-i-a, we call it like we see it too...that driver is an idiot, sure.  Granted, that is a pretty whack thing to have happen so quickly (car go sideways and slide to a stop right in front of you), but I agree, I think she could have done a better job slowing down and leaving a gap.

You post like you need some anger management classes.

This has been covered. The girl is a racer, (wera? I think?), believe me, her judgement and braking skills are 10x better than anything you or I possess. We can sit back and watch the video and critique her riding all we want.. but in the end, SHE was there, SHE made the decision SHE thought was best, and SHE took the spill.

i would have found out where he lives and slash his tires. wait a few days for him to get new ones, then do it again and again and again to make sure he could drive anymore.

Being a racer doesn't mean your accident avoidance skills are top notch. I'm not saying they aren't, hard to tell from a video. But I've watched it again and again and it honestly looks to me like she was not braking at full capacity. I'm not being critical, in the same situation I probably would have just frozen up and ridden straight into the car at full speed. The point I'm getting at is that based on what I see in the video, that accident looked like it was avoidable. It may or may not have actually been. But it's important to keep in mind that your instinctual reactions are often very wrong and you can't expect to always make the right call. It's the sort of thing that makes me nervous about accidents, while most can be avoided, there really is no way to train yourself to make the right call when the time comes, even though in hindsight it seems pretty obvious...

Here's her homepage, which has a TLC segment on it complete with an interview and more info.

http://smoothcurvesracing.com/home.php

Based on what she said, sounds like indeed she chose to swerve rather than brake. She also said that once she realized she couldn't get around him, she pulled her leg up to avoid having it crushed and took her hands off the bars. That explains why it looked like she wasn't braking much as she got close to him.

Like I said I find this stuff scary, a lot of accidents could be avoided if you react properly, but how the heck do you train yourself to react properly for a situation like this?

you never want to brake and swerve at the same time. she tried to swerve and try to squeeze by the silver car and the idiots bumper.
