"Must Have" Road Songs

Modern technology is marvelous.

I've been rebuilding my personal audio device in preparation to carry along my favourite tunes for some upcoming summer trips, and the thought came that I should download music that I've always wanted to buy but missed the opportunity.  My problem is I can't remember half the great songs I've heard over the past 40 years.

I'm sure I'm not alone.

So I challenge you folks to nominate your favourite road songs.

Some rules for modern times.

  • Identify Artist and Song Title.  Add Album if it has been covered, re-recorded or done live.
  • The songs should be available via Commercial and/or On-Line means. If it is hard to find, please identify who you found it from, such as RealNetworks, iTunes, or whomever.
.
Examples:
---------- Artist ----------- Track ------------ Album (---------- Service)

  • Steppenwolf - Born to be Wild -- Steppenwolf
  • Fleetwood Mac - Go Your Own Way --  Rumors
  • America - Ventura Highway -- Homecoming
  • Billy Idol - Rebel Yell -- Rebel Yell
  • Modern English - I Melt With You -- Pillow Lips
  • Bryan Adams - Can't Stop This Thing We Started -- Waking Up The Neighbours
  • Coldplay - Speed of Sound -- X&Y
  • John Mellencamp - Hurts so Good -- The Best That I Could Do
  • .38 Special - Hold On Loosely -- Flashback
  • anything by AC/DC - pick liberally from Who Made Who and Back in Black.
So what should I consider getting to listen on the open road?  Name the Road Song "Must Haves" for any GS500 rider's iPod (or similar MP3 device).

PS. I'd like this as an extension of the same idea SuZuki10 floated about 18 months ago in her Must have songs... thread.  Didn't want to add to it - seemed nice as it is.
