Ok I've got a problem.  Turns out the 04+ model exhaust pipe OD is larger than the pre-04 models.  Mine is 45mm (approx. 1.75") and the slip-on midpipe ID is 2.2".  This gap is pretty significant and can't be fixed by tightening the clamp.  So my options are

1.  Get an '04+ header pipe.

2.  Make a coupler or otherwise weld the  (stainless steel) mid-pipe to the (steel) stock exhaust pipe.

3.  Try something else (return or sell the TRS can to a F model owner and get a different pipe).

Any recommendations?

Go for headers off the newer bike.

Argh, only reason I was willing to spend so much was because it was zero-hassle and because I couldn't find a Yosh full system anywhere.  Now one's for sale.

Getting an 04+ header would be great except for finding one.  One on ebay went for $100.  Only the older ones are cheaper...

So I called Star Cycle (who I ordered the exhaust from) and they said that exhaust shops sell heat-resistant adapters that have the same ID as the OD of the GS midpipe and the same OD as the ID of the slip-on, to act as a coupler or spacer.  Anyone have any experience with these on either car or bike?

Hey sanjay, you could go to an autozone and rent a Exhaust Expander tool.  YOu dont have that far to go and it might just work for you if your pipe isnt rusted through there. Ill look at that first

Not mine, but an older TRS on Boss500's bike.  Still working on getting the adapter...  This should satisfy your pic cravings in the meantime  :)

First, what is that tank protector on Boss500's??? I can't find any that look/fit the GS properly. It kinda looks like the Suzuki OEM one for sale at a local motorsports place... but I'm not quite sure.

Secondly, I'm looking at getting a TRS slip on for my bike too. I've read the Wiki and searched through posts and have received conflicting information. There IS or IS NOT a full exhaust system made by Yoshi for the GS500F's 04+? If I can find a full system, that'd be much more preferable than a slip-on (Depending on the price... those slip-ons are like $350-400?  :cookoo:) for the, albiet slight, performance gain as opposed to a slip-on. Also, where can I find stainless steel headers without buying a Jardine? I don't like the look of the black exhaust. I live in a dusty/rocky area and the black paint is already starting to get a little chipped up.

Thanks for your help guys! And I can't wait to see the pics Sanjay. Grats on the pipe!

at this time, yoshi is NOT making a full system for the GS.  As far as I know, only Jardine and V&H are making the full system, and Jardine is the only one with SS headers.  The V&H is mild steel which will eventually rust if not repainted yearly.  I got my jardine about 2 weeks ago and LOVE IT.  The sound that comes out of it is delicious (if sounds can be).  So, unles you just want the Yoshi so that you can be like everyone else with a Suzuki and a Yoshi pipe, buy the Jardine system.  Besides, it costs just as much for the whole thing as the Yoshi does for just the slip on.  Do the math people. :cookoo:

I probably will just settle with the Jardine (even though deep down I'd like a TRS. That Tri-oval is sexy!). Sanjay, you must give us audio and pics!

Ever still, what is that tank protector??? It looks niiiiiiccccceeee!
