This appears to be a meat thermometer, clock, and outside air thermometer all in one.  I'm thinking:

(1) Drill hole in oil cap.  Remove dipstick.  Epoxy temperature probe in place of dipstick.
(2) Extend wire from temperature probe.
(3) Mount thermometer gadget somewhere (on tank?) in flexible water-resistant plastic case (some packages from screws should work for that purpose, especially if sealed with aquarium sealant.  Magnetic back should stick to the tank through the plastic case.
(4) (Optional) -- add LED light hooked up to bike's electrical system for night visibility.

Anyway, this should be an oil temperature gauge, clock, and air thermometer for under $30.  (Assuming it reads to 260F or so as it should!)

Cheers,

Would it be more acceptable if it were rebranded as a motorcycle gauge and sold for $99.95 + tax?  :icon_rolleyes:

That would work ... if your dip stick stayed dipped in oil ...
Re wire that into your oil galley ... right under the round cover on the right ... and read pressure too ... yea 7 inch long stick ... not suitable for oil galley. A pressure fitted banjo and a dual sensory guage is OK though.
Cool.

I'm assuming that the tip stays dipped ~75% of the time at least.  Dipstick oil temp gauges aren't uncommon at all for bikes.  Remember that the force vector is parallel to the wheels on a bike even whilst cornering, unlike in a car, so the oil doesn't slosh from side to side much.

Yes, but the sunlight will wreck the lcd display and the vibration from being on an MC will kill the circuit board.

There's this, which is $31, ugly, but seems to be environmentally protected, so it'll probably survive on a bike.

The oil draw on bikes with sight glasses is over 1 inch. As in, when its off, it'be at the top of sight glass, start it and it will drop off the bottom, over an inch.
Dipstick will be in air ...
BTW, you dont want to know what the oil pressure is ... it would worry you.

Puerto Rico. Boricua de pura sepa !!!

sorry! you need to play tetris with my English

ohgood

Intersections are pretty dangerous as it is. I don't want to be looking down at the oil gauge and wondering why it's 'hot' or 'not' at an intersection.

It's air cooled. Keep the oil changed and filled, and just ride it ?
