Today was the day...when I went down

I went down at an intersection today. Main thing though is that Im alright and my bike isnt bad at all. I approached the intersection to a green light and planed to make a right turn. I merged into the right turn lane and some jackass decided that he would start to walk accross the intersection disregarding the red light :x . He stopped on the road and looked at me as if I was the one doing the wrong thing :bs: . I went wide around the corner and made it ok but applied the gas just a touch and lost traction. It was wierd because it was very fast buy yet seemed so slow, I was on my back and looked over to see my bike sliding down the road. Luckily I wasnt going very fast at all, a guy in his pickup asked if I was ok and I hoped up and said yes as I picked up my bike and got it off the road. Meanwhile the jackass continued to cross during the red light and continued on like nothing was wrong :guns: , I let him know that there was as I started freaking out on him, but he continued on (this is where I screwed up and should have followed him but I was too shaken up) about that time two girls came over and said they saw the idiot walk right in front of me and asked if I was ok. If I ever see that kid again Im going to have words with him.

To the bike. I laid it over at about 8:45 and have since been out riding again and everything seemed to be ok. The main thing wrong is that the ignition cover is a scratched up and the front brake lever is scratched, I was wondering where I can get these replacement parts? Also what do I need to check to make sure the bike is in tip top riding shape again? Thanks.  :thumb:

Also, I forgot to mention that I smelt a little gas after all of this happend, Im assuming that it is normal since the bike was on its side? Thanks again.

I think when your bike goes on it's side, some gas ends up going down the tank drain line.  It's to be expected, but make sure the gas is pretty much evaporated before going off and riding.  Don't want to start a fire or nothing :)

And sometimes it is good to let to bike sit for a couple minutes, as the oil gets sloshed around and might set off the warning light.  heh, I'm just recycling info from another post, dunno where it is at the moment. ;)

About checking... I'd look for any places where cables or wiring might get pinched,  if handlebars are straight, or if  the gaps between frame and tank, etc have changed.  Though it doesn't sound too bad.  Sucks when your poor little bike gets roughed up though!     hehe, glad you are okay too!

You guys are making me paranoid!  :o

I'm glad you're okay.

You can pick up OEM replacements at Bike Bandit and others. If you only scratched up the badge, it's like $15.

When you tip over like that some gas runs out of the carb overflow.  As long as that's all it is it's fine.  Check your tank and fuel lines to make sure there isn't a crack or leak there.

Sprint,

Glad your ok. When I had an idiot back into me and knock me over, I smelled gas as well and the bike was a little hard to start. It is normal for that to happen I guess. They finally got the guy that ran into me for hit and run. Serves the @$$hole right because he did not stop at all. :x

That was what they told me after i laid mine down.  Took a little fall after i hit some BADLY places gravel.  I had about $100 of parts before i hit the road again.

For parts replacements... If you hurt any of the fiberglass go to napa autoparts (or like shop) and ask for fiberglass repair kit.  It includes everything except the sandpaper to make the glass look good again.

For other parts you can find schematics at bikebandit.com.  They are kinda crappy but they work.

Let me know if you need any other suggestions.

Glad you are okay...crashing sucks.   :x
I'm sure you'll have the bike up, running, and in ship shape before too long.

Got the bike running and have almost all the damage fixed. I repainted the entire exhaust with high temp black, and I think it looks better all black than with the chrome. I took my ignition cover off and sprayed it with krylon gloss black and it matches the factory black perfectly, I cant believe it. The only thing I have to buy is the logo that goes over the ignition cover, Ill get this at bikebandit for like $12. The only other damage is some scratches on the mirror, brake lever, and front turn signal and I can live with all of those. I came out pretty luckey on the whole deal. Thanks for all your support, hopefully no one else goes down for a long while.
