Does anyone run a cut-off exhaust on their GS?

It is somewhat of a silly question but I was using a PVC spacer on my flange and wileyco which cracked.  Long story short, since the spacer cracked and fell off the bolt unlossed and the exhaust fell off in the middle of the highway  The when i got it back, the exhaust was unusable.  So, will I be doing any damage to the bike by running a cut-off until I locate another exhaust?

One of the European members of the board has some pretty interesting slash-cut tips on his exhaust, right near the swingarm, he's the only one I know of that doesn't run at least some sort of can.

No, you won't be doing any damage to the bike, just to your ears and your reputation with your neighbors.  Keep the revs low on city streets, and remember that straight exhaust dumping out carries over distances much better than exhaust with some sort of silencing on it.

Cool.  Yeah it is hella loud.  But loud is cool!!!!!

Hi Whatever,
I disagree.
Loud is NOT cool.
Motorcyclists all over are beginning to face much harsher noise ordinances in communities around the nation, including here in Lancaster, PA, because residents and governments are tired of noisy vehicles, from motorcycles to cars.
I've been riding for 32 years and also maintain quiet exhaust systems because noise isn't needed and because it makes more enemies for motorcycles.
To me, riding without the hassle of tougher laws is a worthwhile strategy.
And don't give me the "loud pipes save lives" argument.
It's totally bogus and ridiculous. Paying attention, riding safe, riding with gear, riding without consuming alcohol and riding within your abilities --- those are the things that save lives.
Best wishes, and find yourself a pipe fast!

I'd like mine almost silent, like a sewing machine running in the other room of an igloo.

But sometimes I'd like it loud, somewhere between chainsaw and avalanche loud, with a little bit of locomotive WOT vibration.

Nothing beats locomotive WOT vibration when you're single-pointing a 10" - 4 pitch on the end of a 38' x 20" cruise liner prop shaft.

Well, almost nothing.

No thanks on the slash cut stocker. It's just not cool unless you make the whole pipe yourself.

you can run 4 GS in a row with no can and it still would be quieter than any harley.  i too do not agree with the loud pipes save lives  :bs: . if you look on the cages the music is on, the kids are yakking, the driver is yakking and trying to dial a cell phone, eat or read a map.
