any ideas on my head/fog light problem?

spc

Ummm.........could be the regulator............does the intensity increase/decrease in correspondence to RPM's???

TheMajekalBum

nope...just randomly...and for verying amounts of time...sometime bright for the whole ride sometimes half the ride

well time for a few updates I guess....I got the new tires on and broken in. Also got the clutch cover gasket so yay...no more leaking makes me happy.  Got a new battery thrown in it.....so the only things left to do is get the headers fixed (looking into that today) and to get the fork filled with oil and mess with preload. One kinda depressing thing though...I bought a 15t front sproket thinking I could get a bit more umph out of it...ordred it, got it...when I took the cover off to install it I saw the bike already had a 15 tooth....but it didn't look too happy...so i put the new one on...so now I kinda wish I went for the 14t front. Next time I get a little extra to throw down.

Still got my headlight problem...isn't quite as bad now that I got the real battery in...the one I used for a while was a moped battery....really small. Also my tach is bugging out on me now...doesn't show the propper RPMs...just kinda jumps around making a wirrrring noise...So I'm hoping to get some extra cash soon to get the acewell.

I also need a front fender....wey riding is horrable right now..sprays water everywhere....and i got a cool idea to make one fairly cheapy...I just need to buy some diamond plate alum....and cut out a semi cross shape to it then bend it and drill a few holes to mount it.

You've gone into so much change/swap/repair that I would suspect a connection in the system...or a switch contact. The headlight circuit for the stock GS is...(click on the thumbnail for a full size)

I cannot be certain of how you have repaired anything so you must double check your electrical connections and possibly replace any "twist & tape" junctions with reliable, mechanical electric connections.

If your tach is the original GS tach, it sounds like the drive cable is broken. They can spin and catch or spin and miss often. Check to make sure it is screwed onto the tach and engine interface tightly. My money is on the broken cable - essentially a long, tight coiled spring - probably near the tach end.

The worst case is that the tach drive inside the engine is bad.  :dunno_white:

BTW - good job on an ambitious project. You get the Effort Award!

the drive in the tach must be bad....the cable spins then it's not screwed into the tach and it was screwed in pretty good.....and the electrical was just fine from the crash...there is a bit of "other" crap from the guy before my brother inlaw...maybe I'll go through the wiring harness and fix it up.

well only new update is that I did the forks today...Replaced the fork seals and threw some oil in (10W) then put 31psi of air in and it's nice and tight! Also pulled the rear shock off the zx750...looks like it may fit the gs and it's an air shock....so I could adjust the stiffness and it has a 4 stage rebound adjustment....anyone got the measurements on the gs rear shock...like the distance between the mounting tabs...on the top and the bottom...and the length of the shock from the mounting holes

TheMajekalBum

does any one have a gs shock that isn't installed? I'm wondering about those measurements ....the gs is the only way I have to get around right now so If I could get some info before I tear the rear appart to possibly find out it wont work.
