lmao there are parents here that have been tring for years to get the Harry Potter books out of the libary's. Claiming that they teach wichcraft to kids and will turn them into devil warshipers.

I don't really care what type of books or who wrote the books if it's getting younger kids to read then its all right with me. It might not be Illiad and Odyssey or Sun Tuz's Art of War or The Cat in the Hat but at least they are reading. And who know's after reading Harry Potter they might go on to *Gasp* read other books. I know it sounds crazy

When I was a kid, I read constantly. There was a certain path I followed, and I'm sure other kids used the same stepping stones.

Comic books, choose your own adventure books, fantasy novels (like Harry Potter, but this was 20 years ago), western (Louis L'Amour anyone, all the Sacket novels), Stephen King, Lord of Rings, classic literature.

When I was in 8th grade, I read Frank Herbert's Dune in 7 days. That's flyin' for a 14 year old kid with a 700 page book. By time I had graduated high school I had read every Hemmingway novel.

Potter is a stepping stone. I hope when I have kids I can turn them on to reading early. And I'll probaby give them the Harry Potter books to read at some point. I don't buy all the witchcraft stuff. Kids are smart enough to know the difference.

I think there are bigger problems with the 20 and 30 yo's that camp out for gaming consoles, and shoot each other over them.

My wife is a huge HP fan, I've read the first couple of books, I thought more of them after reading them than I did going in, they're good

I've had trouble staying awake for some of the movies tho

I have watched all the movies so far and ejoy them, These movies are more of what I like fantasy type thing are my passion hell my band is in the catogory of fantasy metal. Would I wait in line for hours to buy the book NO, I just pre-ordered it on amazon.com

Don't get me wrong, I'm not rubbishing reading or HP. All my boys are encouraged to read and usually get read about 2 or 3 stories a night.

and as for HP, I've never read it, but if you do and like it, good on you.

But sheesh the way y'all were carrying on before bitching and moaning about a series of books
