Hey guys. Im having problems with one of my seals leaking after changing them this winter. Of course the bike hasnt actually been mobile until about 2 weeks ago. I put the fluid in about 2 months ago along with the progressives and now my right fork seal is leaking.
Is it possible that I may have installed this seal upside down? Any insight would be great guys.

Dual lip seals - like all of ours, if you bought fork seals and not oil seals are all 2 sided.
Upside down... no such thing.
Cool.

my seals have a lip on them.if i had installed them lip down the lip would have been crushed along with the spring that runs around the inside of it.also i lubed my seals and dust seals/fork wipers completely before i installed them and then wiped my forks down when i was finished.no leaks.just make sure you don't damage the springs in the seals or nick the inside/outside of the seal.what are you using to drive the seal in and are you assebling the fork and then installing the seal?depending on the forks i'm doing i use a 18 inch piece of pvc or exhaust tubing.

Not trying to give you a hard time but my seal had one raised lip and the other side was flush.  :icon_confused: At first I thought I had gotten dust seals, until I unwrapped them, and saw the springs that run around on the inside.  :icon_confused: Maybe my new seals fit another bike with 37mm fork legs.  :dunno_white: All I know for sure is they fit tight and seal good.  :thumb: Dang it!  I just jinxed myself. Now,when I go to ride again fork oil is going to be every where.

Hopefully it's not a serious problem, but to rule out the obvious:

Could your fork tube be bent for any reason? Accident/Drop/PO?
Did you use "Leakproof" seals? It's a company that makes them (total crap in the opinion of most mechanics).
Could your fork tube be "pitted"?
Have you or anyone done wheelies or other "aggressive" riding on the bike that may have blown it already?

Just had to get those out of the way. Otherwise, it could be something like a bad molding job on the seal itself, the seal could have been pinched going in (I did that with my oil filter seal).

Just a thought,

I heard of one thing and forgot one other.
Put 1-2 oz DOT 4 brake fluid in place of 1-2 oz of suspension fluid. Evidently that soaks up and makes seals softer. Someone told me this few days ago.
The thing I forgot - The dual lip things are oil seals, Buy with ID and OD, fork seals are single lip.
Cool.

I put 1200 miles on them with no signs of fork oil.  :thumb: When dgyver and I,done his seals they were flat on both sides. One side had a deep grove around it.It seemed to us,the logical way to install it would be grove down,so the retaining clip would have something to press against. :dunno_white: We were putting new seals in Katana forks.I have the seals with the lip in my GS forks.  :icon_confused:
