Idle Speed?

I recently purchased a 2002 GS, I have started riding it and am discovering some interesting things. This is my first bike so I appreciate any help you can provide. I am pretty car savy so getting around the engine is not a big deal...

I took it out for a short ride today after getting a new battery and charging it. After warming up (5 mins) I had the choke all the way off and the bike was idling around 1,500 to 2,000 RPM. This seemed normal. At each stop light when i stopped or even in the parking spot the idle would drop as expected (usually) but then slowly climb to 4-5,000 RPM. I could drop it by letting a little clutch out, but then it would just rev back up. The lowest it would go on its own was 3,000.

Is this an acceptable Idle? If not...

Any Ideas?

I got my bike used and the 1 and 2 day the do the same to me !! but mine climb up to 3.5 rpm's. between the 2 carbs in the midle there is a bolt that you can turn you can adjust there no need for tool it have like a round grip for do it wiyh your fingers .. left more RPM rigt less RPM. not sure if that is your problem but you can give a try !!

do it when the bikes heat up . if you do it with the bike cool then when she heats will go up the RPM'S...

the bike should be at 1.5 rpm's

Sounds like the same issues I had when my bike was running lean. Does the bike have an aftermarket exhaust or air filter?

Just a K&N drop in filter? or K&N pods? Either way, thats probably the culprit. You'll need to rejet like I did.

My fault...my instinct was to think of my car which has a k&N...

My bike has a Vance and Hines exhaust.

Still needs rejet?
