Charging batteries?

I have a brand new stock replacement battery for the bike, along with acid from advance auto and a gallon of distilled water. I also own a 1A 12v trickle charger. Now, some people have told me I have to have the battery filled and charged professionally, so they can measure specific gravities, etc... Other people say just put the acid and water in the right proportions, throw it on the trickle charger for 12-18 hours, and be done with it.

Opinions?

Thanks guys, I only ask because my battery is beginning to not hold a charge (it's 5 years old, and been discharged at least 3 times that I know of), and I need to get this new battery up and running.

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

I would do it yourself  :thumb: I cant see any reason for having someone else do it. Here at our Suzuki shop all we do is fill em up and charge em for about 24hrs.. there is no special service for them

Do it yourself.  Also, you can get one of those instruments that measures specific gravity from most automotive stores, but you may need an adapter to fit the m/c battery holes.
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?
