When I moved back to south Florida in 1995, you couldn't get "sweet tea" anywhere!   Lots of iced tea, but NEVER sweet.  No restaurant south of Orlando sold sweet tea.  Then Sonny's BBQ came to south Florida (they are based in Gainesville).   Sweet tea started showing up as an option at more and more restaurants.   Heck, now McDonald's is even pushing it!

And to the non-believers who say, "Can't you just get unsweetened tea and add sugar?"    The answer is no.   It doesn't dissolve, and it's just not the same.

And I won't even go into the abomination known as   :2guns: "instant" tea...

Yup ... finally someone said it. BTW in middle east - yes where we are trying to straighten them out - they always have a container of super saturated sugar water on the table. Like sugar syrup. You want it sweet, pour that in ... and it will dissolve.
Instant tea mix is actually not bad. You will have to mix powder in hot water. Then put ice on it. I have had a good bit, and its definetly not bad at all. Liquid concentrate - OK even better, but powder will have to be in hot water to mix.
When at work I routinely do it. 1/2 cup of hot water, mix with stir stix, then get a full cup of ice and pour the 1/2 cup on it slowly. Sip with stir stix.
I have bought several makes - costco, Pure lemon (I think), harris teeter make etc ... all OK.
Cool.

in the bar industry we call that simple syrup.    boiled down sugar water is all it is really.    What i miss from Pa is the good ol sun tea.. Grandparents used to make it on the farm.  IT was the best.  I havent tried to make it here in florida but im sure i would be able to.

Sweet tea is gooood. There is one southern BBQ place I go to here that is the only place in NYC I know of that has it.

Also a big fan of the half lemonade half iced tea mix...

Sweet tea is messed up.  Here is the deal:  I'm a grown man.  If I wanted sugar in my drink I would put it there.  So I go into a resaurant in the south, order tea, expect to taste tea, and instead taste sugar.  I nearly spit it out every single time.  Seriously?  Why do you need sugar in your tea?  What, are you like 12 years old or something?  Maybe order a PB & J and cut the crust off.  Maybe gets some fish sticks while you're at it.

I was at a McDonalds in New York that had sweet tea. I was surprised, I usually only see it in the south.

I don't like sweet tea but to each their own.

What I hate is paying 1.39 to 2.69 for a glass of tea that has enough tea in it to color the water and you can't taste any tea.

Mcallisters Deli has excellent iced tea. It actually tastes like tea.

I have gotten into the habit of just drinking water because I am so tired of restraunts that cant brew a pot of tea.
Why didn't you just go the whole way and buy me a f@#king Kawasaki you bastards.

I use orange Pekoe and Pekoe cut Black tea,AKA Orange Pekoe Black Tea.

I use 4 family size tea bags
1 and 2/3 cups pure cane sugar

fill a large pot or boiler with 3 to 4 quarts of tap water
add sugar to water, and place tea bags in water
place on stove,hi heat
bring water, sugar, and tea bags to a boil
remove from heat and place lid on top
Let stand 10-15 minutes
pour into tea picture
allow to cool to room temp
refridgirate over night
next day fill glass with ice and tea,Enjoy

This is my way. There are many variations on how to make and what kind
of tea is beast.I generally use Louisiana brand tea and Dixie Crystal sugar.
Dunno if they have that in OZ.
