Dropped my bike this morning

First time in 20k miles.  I was pulling into a parking spot at school and rode over a small patch of what I thought was dirt.  It turned out to be a very slippery patch of mud.  The front end immediately washed out and I caught the bike about half way before it hit the ground, then laid it to rest.  I went to class after the drop without any pain.  Sat through a 2hr lecture, stood up, and I had a real tough time walking out the door.  My hip was throbbing.

I ended up with a couple of very small scratches on the fairing and stator cover and a slightly bent shift lever, nothing big.  I knew eventually I'd drop my bike, and I'm glad it finally happened and the damage wasn't bad.  I had become a little too complacent while riding over the past 20k miles, and hopefully this accident will be a constant reminder for me to stay alert, ride safe, and avoid mud/gravel/sand/oil...  Just wanted to share my pain & shame and remind everyone to stay safe.

Don't forget to let it go ! A quick jerk of a couple hundred pounds can wreck your back. Good thing you're ok mate.

Thanks for reminding me to watch for obstacles. Another lesson and reminder.

Ride safe.  :thumb:

Tuff luck dude, trying to catch your bike can really hurt, I'll vouch for that.

You didn't drop your bike, you only Pandy'd it.
The more I learn about women, the more I love my bike.

The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

I did that the first week I had my bike. I was walking it out of my hiding spot in my apartment complex and it started to go over. Tried to hold on and ended up pulling the shoulder out of its socket quickly. I'm still not 100% from that one about 3 weeks later.

I almost did a Pandy , it started 2 slip away , so i just didnt yank it ,i sorta went with it half a foot to slow it  and pull it up , a sudden 300 pounds isnt gonna do so well against a body or a leg , some how saved it tho

I parked on top of a big rock in the local cafe parking lot one afternoon.  The parking lot there is all rock, with a few big ones mixed in for good measure.  When I stopped I noticed the bike felt a lot taller and made the mistake of looking DOWN and behind to see what I was stopped on.  About two seconds later I was cushioning the fall of my Baby G.

It wouldn't have been so bad if it hadn't:

1)  Been lunchtime and packed.
2)  Directly outside the front window.

By the time I clawed myself out from under my Baby G the laughter from inside had pretty well died down.  Due to the "human cushion effect" the GS didn't suffer a scratch.  Suprisingly, neither did I.   :icon_rolleyes:
Every zero you add to the tolerance adds a zero to the price.

If the product "fails" will the product liability insurance pay for the "failure" until it turns 18?

Yesterday I came home from work and I was trying to be really really quiet because AJ worked a long shift and had just gone to sleep...well I suck almost as much as NGFL...I ride her bike to work everyday and I started to turn around in our driveway..went to put my foot down and there was no ground there!  :o Then when I found the ground my foot slipped in the gravel..I haven't done that in a while..then I had to go and wake her up to help me pick it up..it sucked alot...

I didn't know you could be, First of all, the guy who dropped my bike off at my house showed me how to use the center kickstand so fast i didn't even know what to do. Second, I didn't know it could hold up me and my bike, i thought it was just for my bike. is it safe to jump on your bike with the cs? if it is i think it would be easier to get off.

thats how i've always done it, just put your weight back so the rear wheel touches down down and then push the front back down and forward. use the front brake as soon as it is off the stand. it cant be any worse then sitting on her with the side stand down.
