Get your gauge face on

A while back there had been some posts on custom gauge faces. Anyone care to help design custom printable gauge face templates for the GS 

I would love just plain white... I think it was airbrush that had done a very cool and colorful custom set...

I duno... isn't there an easy way to make a template that other GSers can download and customize?

I've got a set of damaged faces removed from their housings.  In the next month I'm going to try to scan them in and trace them in AutoCAD so I can cut out and etch new ones with a [assumes DR EVIL pose]LaserCAMM[/DR EVIL pose]

Well I can't make any guarantees, but its on my shortlist of things to do.  When and if I get them done I'll post the the files here.

Ive seen them on ebay , in like 50 designs , and i recall the bright white ones ,If i recall ,from germany

Scanning didn't work too well for me. I had noise pixels to edit out. The Toone Software program I mentioned in the linked post worked great. That way you have a fresh source of data. I have made the backing plastics from thin acrylic. A fresh face is then glued to the back.

I printed faces out on vellum of different qualities, but haven't made the plunge yet on the project. I keep getting beat out of ebay gauges to experiment with.

In the past, some just slapped a piece of white paper over the original. Crude, but functional and they were happy.

The toughest part is getting a clean entry into the gauge itself. I made a rotating mount to set the gauge on. It was crude, but worked. The next version will be much improved.

I have templates made for the gauges from when I painted mine.

They are in vector format, so you can take them to a sign shop and have them cut it out of vinyl for you, then just stick em on....

If anyone wants the files message me with an email i can send attachments to.

They are in .AI and .EPS format, easily imported into any signshops software.



..as far as getting the gauges apart...your on own with that one...they're a b!tch.
