I'm new to the forum and hate that this is my first post, but here's the story:
Me and my boyfriend were riding our bikes around and my bike started making a wierd noise. Immediately I pulled off the road and he checked the bike and realized there was no oil left. So we took it to the dealership i bought it from and they looked at it. They told me my oil was over full, and i needed my carbs cleaned. I didn't understand what they were talking about if it had no oil, but I told them to do what needed to be done and call me when its finished. Few days later they called so i went and picked it up. As I was on my way home the bike started making the noise again, so i turned around and started heading towards the dealership when the bike just died. They came and got it and said they'd look over it.
When they called back about a week later, all of the sudden all these things were wrong with it, and resulted in my engine locking up. Both them and suzuki refuse to do anything with it because i don't bring it in for regular maintenance, unless I pay $2000 for the new engine.

Needless to say I need a new engine, i called the salvage yards and only one around me has a 2006 gs500f motor for $1000. Another has a 2001 gs engine for $600. Will this engine fit my bike?
If anyone has an engine and it can fit in my bike, please let me know if you'd want to sell it.

For a motor 04+ will fit they are the same motor.  Pre 04 the GS didn't have the oil cooler, if you go with a pre 04 motor I suggest you turn your E into an F model.

Thank you blue, i know you meant f to an e.  8) So I guess I'll buy that motor for $1000, unless someone has one that i can buy off of them

Welcome, ty!  :thumb: So sorry to hear about your troubles. That totally sucks about your engine. Hope you get things back to running quickly!

post a thread in the wtb/wtt section of the forum.  Also, check ebay. There are people parting GS's out on there all the time.  You don't have to convert to an E model if you go with a pre 2004 engine.  Just remove the oil cooler, or integrate it with that engine.  The engines are very similar, the carbs are way different.

My suggestion is get an engine with as few miles and the most decent price you can afford, regardless of the year.  If possible, keep your engine, break it down, rebuild it, and sell it to make some of your money back.  Also, if you can, get a manual and do the engine swap yourself.  It will be a great project, and you'll learn alot about the bike, and you'll keep from paying ridiculous dealer labor fees.  I suggest paying for a paper manual, but there are a few electronic copies floating around here.  PM me if that's the route you wanna go and money is an issue.  Good luck getting it back on the road.

An earlier thread's post ( by dgyver, I think) mentioned that oil cooling piping is built into the '04-'07 engine block, so you cannot simply add an oil cooler to an E model engine.  And the oil cooler was specifically added by Suzuki because the F model's fairing blocks airflow around the engine.  So if you're not removing your fairing, it's probably safer to stick with an '04 + engine, with oil cooler attached.

This really seems to be a common problem with the gs. Im currently rebuilding an engine that my friend seized. When we started taking the fairing off we could see very clearly that the bike had been leaking oil. Its going to cost less then 200 to rebuild it. best of luck with you engine search

they are right about the oil cooler, i have a 89 e engine lying around and a new one, i put them side by side and there are two intakes for the newer engine that the old one just does not have.

Why I suggested if she went with a pre 04 motor to go naked.  That is a good idea tho, instead of buying a new engine do a rebuild of your exhisting one.  Will be cheaper and you will gain alot of exp on working on your bike.

I know you said your bike was a 06 is it still under factory waranty?  It's not in the user's manual that if you don't have a suzuki shop do maintance on your bike it voids the warranty on it.

Not only that but there's a law against such requirements called the Magnuson-Moss act.

Where are you located?I am willing to lend a hand with a swap or rebuild.
PICS are GONE never TO return.

Yes, the bike is under the one year warranty, but suzuki says they are refusing to do anything with it. I don't know what to do but to just replace it or possibly re build it.... I am in Maryland 8)

Thank you blue and nikolas, i am going to call suzuki and cycle world tomorrow with this new information and possibly a lawsuit. I thought they should be liable for this since i brought it to them with a problem that they claimed they couldn't find. And then they told me they test drove it, there is no possible way.

Absolute Rescue

+1 you are definately covered under the Magnuson-Moss act. I could see an argument for the dealer if you didn't bring it in for the problem, but they had the bike just before the engine seized, they should have found something wrong. Fight them for it, you will win. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Well, I've tried to argue with them but they are a :2guns: holes. I don't really feel like paying a lawyer, unless they had to pay for them....

Any way, I found an engine on sale on ebay that I am going to purchase, do you think it looks good? I offered a little less than buy it now, hope they will take it! (please dont outbid me   8))

Personally I would wait longer for a one that has less damage.

Park your bike outside the dealership one Saturday with a sign that says your bike is under warranty and they will not fix it.  :icon_mrgreen:
