I had a new set of Roadriders mounted, checked the air pressure when I installed them on the bike, the front was 51#. I thought that this was surely a mistake, so I dropped the pressure to 33. When I took it out for a test drive, it felt incredibly squirreley, especially making left turns; rechecked it, still at 34, but I noticed  the recommended pressure listed on the sidewall was 42... everything i have read on this forum suggests front tire pressure around the 33# mark, could it be that this particular tire needs higher pressure? I was not pushing the bike hard at all, trying to scrub the new tires in, but it wasn't a good feeling at all...

just checked Avon's website, they suggest 29# for this tire, even though the sidewall says 42?... I will try this and advise.

Maximum tire pressure is 42.

Recommended tire pressure is obviously different, but is really only a suggested starting reference point.  From there you can adjust the pressure to suit your riding style and comfort.  You may go back up to 33psi, if you feel more comfortable on that.

New tires are going to feel more squirrely until you get them broken in properly ('bout 100 miles of normal riding, more to get the edges (carefully, without crashing)).  It has always been suggested to break-in new tires with a lower pressure (like 29psi), and then after bump them back up to what would be your normal operating pressures.
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

Yes, as mentioned, tire pressure MAX is what is listed on the tire. Manufacturers will NOT print the reccomended PSI on their tires because it varies greatly depending on application.

Right around stock pressures should be good.

As for the 51 PSI, seems like the mororn forgot to let some air out after seating the beads. Piece of crap shop that mounted mine did the same thing.
