Long story short, my girlfriend's brother got one of his buddy's bikes out of impound yesterday. The kid was bein a typical sqid and got caught doin 116 in a 55. Anyway, he has no license and couldn't get the bike so g'friends bro did.  Well her brother has 2 bikes an 05  883 Sportster, and an 07 softail standard. The kid that owns the R1 decided that he wants to trade the R1 and a Raptor for the Sporty..?? Anyway he decides to go for it so now he has this R1. The kid had a bunch of engine work done, not sure on the details but this thing rips. I have only ever ridden my GS, and VRod, and a Dyna Wide Glide. I had to take this thing out for a spin. Wow this thing was fast, and smooth. The riding position took some getting used to but wasn't all that uncomfortable (seemed better than my GS with rearsets and clipons). Cornered well but I didn't want to push to hard being my first time on it and the tires need to be replaced (no way I would have been doing 116 on them as I was hesitatant at 55). I can't wait till he gets it into proper riding condition, I'm definately going to be jumping on that again....

I can't imagine what those things feel like at around their peak HP.  My bike has a pretty flat HP curve and after the surge or torque is over the power build really evenly.  But those I4 just rush up on you so fast.

Yea.. I love the liter bikes  :icon_mrgreen:

When I had the Repsol CBR1000 for a work photo shoot I was in love  :icon_razz:

Rolling along @ 35mph in 3rd you can just roll the throttle not even an inch and .... Zzzzzzoooommm... 110mph in 3rd  :icon_twisted: I dont know why anyone needs something that fast but I can see why you would want it  :icon_twisted:

Ok first off why would anyone be in third at 35mph, just a normal ride around screwing off I shift into second at that speed, normal shift point to hit second when things get spirited is around 70 for me.

Feared the 600RR is nice and it's quick, but the R1 really didn't open the throttle that much.
Why didn't you just go the whole way and buy me a f@#king Kawasaki you bastards.

Yea, you know soo much more than me.. I guess that would make more sense

35mph I'm usualy in 3rd gear on my 750 it's not a liter bike tho so maybe it's different  :dunno_white:.  Now when I'm accelerating to highway speeds I just usually go 1st , 2nd then to 6th.
Pilot 22.5, Mid 65 , Mains 147.5, Mixture screw 3.5 turns out

Even if the voices aren't real they have some good ideas.

I wasn't being an ass I was asking you a question. Larger displacement and bigger torque numbers down low doesn't mean it should be ridden like a pansy mobile. The acceleration you got from rolling the throttle on from 35mph in third gear was nothing.

Retard.

Some power to weight ratios for comparison ( the weight is dry and horses at the crank   8) )

R1:                 177hp/180kg= 0.98 , almost a horse per each kilo  :o

CBR600RR:      118hp/155kg=0.76 , 3/4 of a horse per kilo

Hayabusa:     198hp/217kg=0.91 , less than R1 (it only goes faster because of aerodynamics )

and last but not least:

GS500E:               52hp/169kg=0.3  , a pony?  :icon_confused:  although a strong going one  :icon_razz:

Yes , torque is another important factor that people forget , I love V twins myself ( the modern ones.... :icon_rolleyes: )

loved it !!!  sick pass pantablo !!!

No doubt you got a good ride going on I haven't finished the video yet but for pure acceleration down the straights the R1 will walk away from the 600.
Your buddy on the R1 spends a lot of time in the lower 50% of the engines RPM range not the upper 25% where he should be whats up with that?
Also as you mentioned your familliar with the track and he is not. He is slowing down way to much in the turns where you are carrying better speed so far it appears he is keeping close to you using raw acceleration out on the straights.

right on all accounts. the R1 walks away from me on the straights. plain and simple. thats what an additional 50hp will do...
his not being familiar with the track is why he was not revving it high. At Fontana (Cal Speedway) where he goes often he runs the same time as upper 1/3d of the expert racers group. 1:40ish. He's fast. damn him.

Really though, what that video shows is that, overall, a smaller bike is not at an automatic disadvantage to a bigger bike, and everyone here either knows it or will come to know it at some point of riding the gs500. "Its not the bike"

BTW the pass at 6:45 wa sweet :thumb:

Our local track did away with inside passing at all of the Lapping days it runs. NESBA and STT will allow it at Hallet in the race group. It has signifigantly decreased the number of wrecks this year and it makes it a real challenge to pass slower riders who use more of track than is necessary but it's tons of fun.
