I have been messing with this for a little while, and I have just about got it.  Changed the needles to the ones from the 89-00 Dyno Jet kit, DNO348.  They are smaller than the stock ones since they are for a 33mm carb and not a 34mm.  But since they are smaller, the pilot did not need to be changed.  I set them on the fourth clip from the top.  I changed the main to a 147.5, and it has great top end.  The only problem is with the smaller 60 main jet.  Those jets take care of the mid range up to around 6500 RPM.  With the higher volume of air moving through the carbs they lean out until the carbs hit the 147.5 jets.  I ordered some 67.5 jets and those should clear up the little flat spot.  I tried shimming up the needles some more, but since the jets are lean the needle doesn't help at all.  I have the UNI pod filters, and they flow surprisingly well.

Also, this is on a CA bike.  I pulled the charcoal canister because it is a constant vacuum leak.  There are two vacuum connections on the carbs that need to be capped.  It makes a difference taking this off.  I also got rid of the fuel petcock.  I ran a straight fuel line from the PRI outlet on the tank and capped the vacuum connection for the petcock.  It never worked right and was leaning the fuel bowls every once in a while when holding the throttle wide open for extended periods.  I installed a fuel quick disconnect with a spring loaded check-valve and a clear high-flow fuel filter in the line as well.  There is no reserve tank anymore so I have to pay attention to the fuel level, but there is much better fuel flow.

I dumped all that crap years ago, I just go by how many miles I've gone usually. Now that I've rebuilt it though I'm going to have to reset my brain to a new milage so I know when to get gas! heh.  :thumb:

only problem is when one doesnt have a speedo, which i just recently got, otherwise i only had a elec tach from another bike. i did make a nice thick aluminium dash plate for it before i got the gauges. im thinking, if i can get a title for this frame or a TITLED frame, i would like to make a Digital Dash.  LED's speed indication and RPM's  LED's for turn, highbeam.oil, neut, are all simple enough, had them before the gauges.  Anyway, every day i had to crackopen the tank, and look at fuel level. even kept a small  99cent flash light stuffed between tank and seat to see at night.

Oh crap! Good point, no gauges meens no way to calculate squat. You might look into some of the replacement gauges as they are allegedly universal. Allegedly. There are so many fantastic things you can do to customize and change gauges it's awesome. I've always wanted the 2000 SV650 gauges myself. But mine work fine, so  I'm going to leave them. Let me know how you figure that out!
