Hi guys,

wondering whether or not I could get away with this? what are the differences between the 2004 and 2000 models, same frame and engine i thought!!!?

Get back to us asap as I need to know soon if I want it. Also who would anyone recommend for decent quality downpipes?

Thanks again

Matt

I believe the main difference is the addition of an oil cooler on the 04+ models. This will affect clearance of the headers on aftermarket exhaust systems built for pre 04 models.
edit- I reread your post, it looks as though you want to put set of headers for an 04 on to an 00, I don't think you should have any issues, however, i would wait until someone verifies this information.

Is the exhaust a full system or a slip-on?  Midpipe diameter is different between '00 and '04, so if it's a slip-on made for the '04 specifically, it may require some work to fit onto your '00.  Otherwise, if a full system, it *should* be ok.

Its a slip on with a link pipe. I planned to buy an old genuine exhuast and cut the can off of it to use the pipes. Should I get an 04 > original exhuast then to use for downpipes?

If it's specifically marketed towards the GS500F, then I'd get an 04> exhaust to cut.  You might try to find out the link pipe diameter.  ~2" then 04 and up, ~1.75" then the older model.

well i cant say you didn't tell me, 2004 onwards have a bigger pipe coming from the weld to the can, about 5mm all the way round! however for £65 a had a stainless steel reducer made!! Works a treat and the can sounds mint! I've even had a bloke on an SV1000 pull up tellng me he wishes his sounded like mine! Only slight issue is i now likes to wheelie! ;)
