fuel for thought for toyota drivers

Ah looks like a few of us here, normally I would't post an unrelated MC topic but here is something for you toyota drivers to think about. DONT FILL YOUR FUEL TANK UP TOO MUCH. Being a Californian I keep my tank full you never know fires, earthquakes, and tsunamis... ok maybe not tsunamis anyway. Seems keeping it full has led to fuel destroying the vapor canister. Excess fuel flows into the canister and frequent fillings fill the canister as well. You will have a "check engine" light come on and it will be difficult to further put gas into the truck because the pump will keep shutting off. Now I want to warn you here it is expensive to replace the canister. Parts alone running at the dealer $607, not including labor. So folks just beware it is ok to not have a full tank all the time no matter what happens in the Middle East.

Heh, evidently California is actually the only place in North America to have someone die due to a tsunami. One hit Crescent City (where I am) in 1964. Kind of explains the intelligence of this community  "HEY! The tide just went out reeeeeeally realllly far....let's go out there and see what's going on"..........dead......

Californian's still get a lot of extra smog stuff added to conform to CARB's crazy rules

Right they have smog pumps and or air injection systems but the evap can is on all cars now.

How old/ what is your toyota?

Mine is an '02 with a 130,000 on it. I love the truck, they are great when they are running right but when the need stuff done man o man watch out. I have been looking for the reason why this happened and have found that people who have been topping off their tanks past the normal one click get fuel in the canister. Sounds like it also plagues the toyota Camry as well. I have always took it to the one click and stopped but I guess that it was wrong to do that as well. Funny because I drove vehicles in the service and  always topped them off before going anywhere. I had planned on new tires and front struts anyway so I thought I'd get it all done, now I am looking at about $1,600 dealer price for the whole bag of beans. Still I think the truck is great, most reliable vehicle I used.

Mine is a 95 with 238,000 on it with no probs but I need to replace the clutch now but not bad for 238,000

In addition to other Japan cars (subarus) i rock a 1991 toyota previa van with 307K on the origional motor and tranny, it's ugly, but it never fails.
I love toyota.

Those are basically indestructible. I know a guy who has 850k on the original motor. I don't understand how it is still working. He hasn't changed the oil in 15 years either

my father recently(within the last 2 years) bought a tundra pick up. says it's the most reliable vehicle he's owned. i believe he said it's a 98 model. some times the dealers get it right the first time i guess. every make and model vehilcle will have a few good and a few bad. the sad truth of manufacturing. i work as a CNC machinist for Crown. We make forklifts. i like to say i make good quality parts. but sadly, i'm no the only machine operator that runs my machines, or any machine in my plant. all it takes is for one moron to f%$k up to make a bad finished product.  honestly, i dont' think one bad apple should spoil the bunch as the saying seems to say.
