I just moved here

I'm on the east side of Hollywood where the hip people live. Anyone else around? I seen somebody's red and white GS500E on Vermont already.  :nono:

Mostly looking for short (under 70 mi) rides to familiarize myself with the city. Canyons included.

I ride fairly normal with occasional aggressiveness, in this case I'd be content to follow + sightsee. Could be fun.

Hey man. Welcome to L.A. I'm just north of you in Glendale with an '07. It's been too effin' hot for me to ride lately   I'll definitely be up for riding when it cools off a bit. Hopefully next weekend will be good.

Ive been job hunting on the GS btwn lunch and dinnertime, which is when it happens to be hottest... I think I actually had some heat exhaustion today as I got home at six and promptly fell asleep for FIVE HOURS.  :cookoo:

pm ur phone when it cools off, im sure there are some great rides around here. Actually the city itself is a killer ride IMO. Theres a lot of room to let loose  :nono:

Hey, I actually saw a job the other day that's duties include "Motorcycle Courier"

I'll see if I can dig up the link.

And check out Highway 2 (just know its dangerous, go mid-week your first time)

Head over to the beach, and cruise PCH (a ride I actually dislike because of all the damn tourists, but hey! you're sorta one of them)

Santa Monica is OK....

Oh yea, make sure you have a really good rotor lock, with an alarm if you're parking the bike anywhere... shaZam! gets stolen here like you wouldn't believe.

Cool another GS'r in the area, welcome I am way up here in Ventura but not too far from Malibu Canyons. Definately do your fun riding on the weekdays if you can. I think once you get used to LA then your can ride anywhere. Good luck with the job search. :thumb:

I was up in the Malibu/Santa Monica area this past weekend.  Saw a black/gray 500E, and an all yellow 500F.

Angeles Crest is a fuggin' fantastic ride, a bit longer than your 70 miles, though.

if you come to santa monica use PCH only to get to the good stuff-the SM/Malibu mountains. take malibu canyon inland to Mulholland then turn left. shortly you'll pass Rock Store. go on sunday for the 'show'. everyone and their brother goes on sunday. you can often find Jay Leno there sundays too. lots of great canyons further up from there too. You're probably 20 miles from SM (its 25 from me to downtown LA).

Angeles Crest (aka ACH) isnt that far from you (101S->5N->2N->210E, first exit is ACH, turn right to get gas, then head uphill...its 27 miles from the gas station to Newcombs Ranch, a good stopping point for food and drinks.

I'm strictly track these days, but you guys have a good time.

If malibu, I recommend heading up PCH to Las Flores (R). this is a moderately tight road (check the early part as there's a tricky right hand decreasing radius that catches everyone out). this road ends at ...I can't remember, but take a (R). this road becomes Piuma...mmm...Piuma. Take that till it ends at Malibu Canyon (R). then (R) at mulhollnd, the first light. That will take you past Rock Store. keep on Mulholland till the Y intersection and take Mulholland (R) instead of continuing on (becomes Encinal). Mulholland is a great road from here. Ends at a T at Westlake, take a (L) to stay on Mulholland. At next stop sign (T intersection) take a (R) to stay on Mulholland again (that was decker to the left). take mulholland (the best part IMO all the way down to PCH. Turn (L) and take Decker up (very tight but fun), when you get back to Encinal take that down to PCH again, turn (L) take Latigo Canyon up (the BEST road in malibu-most technical, with decreasing radius turns, rough pavement in places, beautiful scenery, etc). ends at Kanan Dune. (R) first street is Mulholland (R). you are now just west of Rock Store. If you want to stop there to check out the bikeporn its best on sunday (Jay Leno is often there sundays). Be warned its a circus though-very crowded. I would suggest continuing past RS to the first Left. take that and at the end, on the right is a little market that serves up the best tri-tip sammiches you'll have. make sure to ask for the horse sauce instead of BBQ.

there's tons more you can do. When I had my GS (I Live in santa monica, malibu adjacent) I would be up there every weekend. I would run 150 miles without a problem. Get a map of the area printed. La Tuna Canyon is fun heading down too, it becomes one way about 1/4 way down and is SUPER tight. We used to run it with the engine off (coast racing)...mmm fun.

be careful though-cops have been seen heavily in the area.

Hey guys I am out for this weekend, I have some obligations I've been putting off. I am getting ready to go to the vintage japanese motorcycle rally on the 6th. It is about a 160 mile trip total. Malibu Canyons are great but alot of traffic, I am going to try to take some vacation time soon so I'd be down for a week day in the canyons. Heck i just realized winter is coming, supposed to get rain on thursday and friday, so becarful if you all go out, alot of slick roads on this first rain.

Manjul you've been "needing to start riding again" since I joined this site back in '02.

I'm down tentatively for Saturday the 22nd. Unsure yet of work schedule. What time of day?

foobar

probably morning or early afternoon  :dunno_white: i'm a morning person and prefer to get started early (10ish) but will defer to the general consensus.

i heard about the cold front that Dan was talking about. it sounds like it could spill over to the weekend so i guess we will just have to play it by ear.

i know of some good rides up in the santa clarita area that are not popular (from what i've seen) on the weekend so we could do one of those too. malibu was pretty crowded when we rode up there last month. quite a few beautiful corners wasted being behind one cage or another
