If they make a 500 that looks like that it will absolutely revolutionize the small displacement market.  I know plenty of people that have gone with zx6r and gix6 options simply because of the aesthetics over the small displacement offerings.

jserio

yeah. if the 250 or 500 has the look of the bigger bikes, i think that will make a huge impact on sales. i've felt that the ninja 500 and 250 are long over-due for a cosmetic make-over.

On a 500cc 2 stroke? I imagine he would... assuming he didn't squid himself straight into a canyon wall first..

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

Yeah, a good 500cc 2 stroke would eat a gix1k for lunch :icon_twisted:  Too bad they don't make em................................

If it was a production 2 stroke, it couldn't have the gobbs of power that the GP bikes had.  If it'll run a 9 sec. quarter, then we might talk about some cash to race for...

GP bikes were production,  just not readily available.   An NSR, or the like would eat a 600 for lunch without much problem given a skilled rider.  Going by that same logic a 500cc 2 stroke would probably be capable of 160+ on the wheel when tuned appropriately and weigh 70-100 lbs less than a gix1k.  For lunch dammit.   Jughead is, or was, working on dropping an old T500 motor into a GS,  that would be a hell of a beast.

jserio

so terry your talking bout a bike that will weigh 300lbs or less and have better than 160hp at the rear tire? i wonder....could the frame of the ninja 250 handle such a power set up? they are allready light and nimble. the same principle applies when race tunning a car. lightest car with the most power. 8)

Excuse me.  When I said production, I was refering to a street bike.  But if you want to compare apples to oranges, lets take a AMA Superbike.  200 or so horse power to the crank, and about 380lbs.  Show me a production "Street" two stroke that'll put down 160 hp reliably, off the dealer floor, and I'll show you a liter bike that will, stock; and take 20,000 miles of abuse too.

You wanna talk production.   Word is, there's a german company that in 08 or 09 is putting out a supercharged diesel 'superbike'.   Try grasping this.  180rwhp and somewhere in the range of 250lbs/ft of torque. :o  sub 400 dry weight.  And the last i heard they were aiming for 12-13k as a price range.
That will be a stock, production bike, that would absolutely destroy even an AMA superbike, while still getting 60-80mpg
The germans are friggin nuts :icon_twisted:

There is a magazine you might have heard of, it's called Superbike?  Anyway, they had a free DVD in one of their magazines with a Supercharged RocketIII.  The bike made over 200bhp.  They raced the Rocket up agianst a K6 GSX-R1000.  Guess who won?  And how did we end up talking about desiels anyway.  There's an American company called "Boss Hoss"  who puts anything from a 327ci V8 up to a 502ci V8 in bikes.  They're considered production and street legal.  Some of the 502's make north of 500bhp.  Lets see a 100mph roll on; though the Boss would have to have a 360 with like 2psi and a passenger on the back to hook up.

well, comparing gasoline engines to diesel engines really isn't a fair comparison. it's no secret that diesel engines have more potential for greater hp numbers. and do it while making good mileage. i believe a gentlemen by the name of banks has created some amazing diesel engines.

High speed,  it's a superbike, so yes, it would be a contender with liter bikes.  Ohhh and check here about 2 strokes.......500cc  putting out 200+hp :icon_twisted:

Amen, diesel is the wave of the future
You just can't beat it.  I'm restoring an 82  240d, and getting almost 40mpg out of it.   On the other hand,  my dad has a remapped 2005 e320, that will devastate a camaro or mustang and hold it's own with with higher quality sports cars.  That thing scared the hell out of me the first time I drove it.  I punched the pedal down expecting the usual diesel chug   Damn thing barked the tires at 40 and slammed me into the seat :icon_twisted:
Edit- I was wrong about the hp of the twin star,  it's comparable to a 750, but the torque is unmatched.

jserio

www.bankspower.com/twin-turbo-comparison.cfm      check that out. that's the thing i was trying to find earlier. :thumb:

I never bashed diesle; I'm a diesle mechanic for God's sake.  But all the 2 stroke numbers you've been raddling off have been race bikes.  A comperably built GP bike like last years RC211V made about 260bhp.

What about a worked Kawasaki H2? I don't know numbers, but I'd guess they HAVE to be putting down well over 100HP, and don't weigh much...

This guy did some major work to his.. I understand that it's not "production" after he did all that.. but the pics and video of his bike are amazing, so I had to share..
