well my bike runs fine most of the time but every now and then around 5000 - 6000 rpm it starts to bog down and wont gain speed beyond that. also the right sparkplug needs to be replaced much sooner than necessary, on a reocurring basis. i was told it was the floats??? im about to open the carb up (never touched a carb before) what stuff should i buy with the floats to make the carb work afterwards? im guessing gaskets or something? any links to maintenance pages would be especially helpful.

Ahhh man...you gots do da search action, plus check out the gstwin.com main page.

Why do you think its the floats, have you check them.
Why do you need to replace the right plug, is getting carbon fouled?
Do a little homework before you just dig right in.

If you describe the symptoms a little better you might get some more help. how often is "every now and then"? does the bike stall or just not accelerate? what speed does it happen at? how open is the throttle when this happens? is it always at 5,000 rpm? can the bike pull through that and get better at say 7k or higher?

here's a link to the maintenance page of the wiki.

what does that plug look like? then you'll know if its rich or lean.

you can validate the mechanics idea that it might be float hight with a simple test

http://www.bbburma.net/FloatHeight.htm

if you're not afraid mechanically, I would take them off, open them up and find out what jets you have in there. you might need to change your number or they just might need a good cleaning. you can clean them on or off the bike. I recommend off. but only if you are willing to do a little wrenching.

do you have the clymer yet?

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0892878339/ref=nosim/gstwincom

it'll help you maintain the bike and it will support the site.

the wiki is your friend.
