I see the pipe offered on ebay for other bikes, besides the tag on teh side to hang the muffler (which i believe coould be chopped and use a regular exhuast mounting strap) is there a difference?

I was gonna ask the same question. There are some good deals on pipes, but for other bikes. I think as long as it has the same diameter exhaust pipe that the GS has it shouldnt be that hard to get it mounted up. What are some bikes with the same size exhaust pipe as the GS?

klimber

what is the size of the gs500 pipe for starters?

I don't think so... the diameter of the header pipe could be different, and where the mounting bracket is is probably different.  If you took really good measurements you might be able to find one you could rig to fit, but it would take some work.

Then why did I ask what other bikes have the same exhaust pipe diameter????  If you can find one that will fit the exhaust pipe all you need to do is cut the exhisting mouting bracket off and weld a new one on the pipe to fit the stock location.

I heard from Yoshimura that the early cbr600 midpipe is same or very close to gs stock pipe-1/75" o.d.

But you're getting this second hand...

let's not get mean......

anyone with diameter?
Kris Johnson

ladybrid

ouch
sorry missed that
the mounting bracket is still an issue tho, it is welded to the can, and there is not more than a half inch adjustment length wise that can be done, at least on the one for the gs that I put on.

but, the tab can be chopped and an exhaust can strap could be used instead

could always cut that bracket off and use a universal one that comes on alot of the cans like yosh and D&D. You can also get a muffler shop to make you a reducer from whatever size pipe down to the GS size. They just take a pipe expander and blow it up.

oohhhhhhh...dumb clever idea coming.........

leave the stock exhaust, cut the tab off and install an exhaust strap, drill it out......

looks cool, sounds better, super cheap and done for absolutley no other reason than to look cool!

seriously!

Could also add a bit more midpipe bent like an S and make it a highmount when using the exhaust strap instead of stock.

lookse your rear pegs tho.

So the number is 1.75 inches, so in order for the slip-on to actually slip in to the pipe it would have to be slightly smaller, Id say about an 1/8 smaller than 1.75

Wait a minute does the slip-on go inside the pipe or around the outside?

klimber

anyone know the diameter of the exhaust can?  i'm kinda into this cheap aesthetic thing!

for those interested in using a universal strap onthe exhaust let me share a bit.

When I installed the gsxr rear pegs and brackets I was forced to remount hte exhaust. Tab is still there but new peg pracket is not in same place. I has a strap made (no one makes a standard strap in the stock gs exhaust size. They also want $40 for those straps. I bought one from Two Bros. but it turned out to be too big (their smallest size is still 1/2" to large) but at least it was only $15.

I had a custom stainless strap made to my specs (I made a cardboard template). This cost me...$40. Only issue is I don't have a nice rubber cushion between strap and exhaust like some aftermarket ones do.

One thing I realized though is that the tab not only holds the exhaust UP it also holds it OUT enough to clear the swingarm. Mine would gently move over and rub the swingarm-probably from always parking on sidestand. I ended up having to rig up a rigid bracket that would push exhaust outward, while still using the strap to hold it up. bracket painted black isnt very visible but I would have preferred a better solution. I gave up for now...If Kerry would post a pic I'll take one and show you what I had to do...

it slips over the existing pipe.

Can is 14" around or 5" diameter

I see, I see. So it would have to be slightly bigger. On ebay there are a couple of cans for $40 or $50. I have two exhaust pipes so I might be able to do some welding to try to get it to fit, my cousin is an awesome welder and can weld almost anything.

Do you have to rejet with a slip-on, it wouldnt hurt but you dont have to do you?
