Hey Guys, I'm trying to get a leather jacket, so I went to the store the other day to try a bunch on.  The guys there said that it should be as tight as possible, so I tried on a few.  Because of limited supply, they only had a medium in one brand and a small in another.  The medium was a little loose, but uncomfortable.  It just didn't feel right.  The small was somewhat comfortable, but seemed almost too restricting.  I think a medium in the later brand would have fit well, but I wanted all of your opinions on how it should fit before I go and buy it.

tight, but comfortable

comfortable

I was looking through posts, and it says that track riding, it needs to be super tight, like a second skin, but I'm not going to be on a track.  It's just for general street riding.  What do you all think?

I don't know about skin tight...  I mean, it has to stay on your body if you crash, and keep everything covered...  My gear is definitely NOT skin tight, and I've crashed three times, and I feel fine.

I'd say tight but comfortable.  The jacket shouldn't be so restrictive that you can't move enough ride safely (e.g. need to be able to check behind you when changing lanes).  But it should definitely be tight enough that the armor will stay in place in case of an accident.  My rule of thumb is to buy the safest gear I'm willing to wear every time I ride.  I think everyone's limit is different, but the safest jacket in the world won't do you any good if it's hanging in the closet.

I bought a Joe Rocjet leather jacket past April when i weighed 200 pounds, it was a L size and the jacket fit comfortable but tight. Then I went on a diet and lost about 35 pounds, and the jacket is definitely loose now, so I could switch to a M size, however I don't complain at all, I commute daily on the bike, and the loose fit helps a little to let air enter through the cufs and cool my arms and chest a little bit.

If S size is tight I would get the M size but would not wonder if another jacket works on M size, the one I want should fit too, I rather test the M size on the jacket I want, specially because I dont want to spend $300+ on something that might not fit well.

Thanks guys.  That's what I was hoping.  I couldn't imaging having something too restricting, cause it could be worse and cause an accident instead of just protecting during one.
