I have Atlantic Broadband cable... I pay an extra $10 or so a month for out whopping 6 HD channels 

If I could only get DSL I would buy a dish in a min.

Since the FCC pushed back the deadline for all TV signals to be digital until 2012, I'm not buying _anything_ widescreen or HD until then. There are sources online that show current US ownership of actual HD TV's to be around 4-5%. WIth numbers that slim, programming will continue to be the wrong format for a loooong time.

Add to my detest of anything marketed as "HD-blah" the many formats and 'standards' currently available, blue-ray vs HDV, DRM, and the DMCA, RIAA and others and I don't know if I'll ever buy a HD device.

Sure, National Geographic specials look great on the TV's at WalMart, and prices are coming down weekly. Sure, HD looks fantastic on a laptop. Sure, HD means you can embed cool apps into movies and really push the boundaries of programming.

When the formats are truely OPEN, and content is OPEN and non-DRM'd, I'll jump on board. Right now, there are too few options, other than bittorrent and being labeled a 'thief'.

Congress passed a law on February 1, 2006, setting a final deadline for the DTV transition of February 17, 2009.

At midnight on February 17, 2009, federal law requires that all full-power television broadcast stations stop broadcasting in analog format and broadcast only in digital format.

With Time Warner digital, I probably get at least 20 HD channels, all the major networks, TNT, two ESPN's, MOJO (awsome), HDNET, HBOHD, etc.   

If you don't have HD, you're a loser.  You probably have rabbit ears on top of your TV.

HD is nice.  Last black friday I stocked up and bought 3   put one in the kitchen one in the living room and one in my room

After one year of having an HD tv, I've finally gotten to the point were I can go to sleep at a decent hour rather than watching it until 1:30.  That's how excellent they are.

I like that Direct TV says 100 HD channels by Jan  SWEET! I only wish the HD DVR wasnt $100

I counted.  I only have 22 HD channels right now.  I hate watching regular programming.  Maybe soon. . . I won't have to.  Give me Spike HD, Speed HD and I'd be pretty dang happy.

Are you kidding me?   Get yourself down to Walmart, get you a 50-to-60" screen, plug in the rabbit ears and your <cringe> good to go.  Most primetime over-the-air TV is widescreen HD--better quality than cable or dish--and it don't cost a dime.  ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, WB, PBS, sports, series, movies, talk, digital SD, digital HD...what are you waiting for--3D?    Analog sucks.  Time to get rid of that tiny TV.

Yeah I forgot, Digital over the air signals.  You can watch 24, smallville, and Heroes in HD with no cable box.

Time Warner cable is like a throwback to the 80s... we cant have direct tv cause the russian landlord doesnt want the dishes on the roof for some reason.
