So I installed my new 14t front sprocket and 108 link x-ring chain and WOW. I like it wheelies are alot easier when slipping the clutch, Im shure it will power up but I need to get rid of the lag when I crack open the throttle. which brings me to my next point, When I cruising along at say 5k in anygear and I go WOT the bike doesnt go as fast as I think it should but it accelerates but it sounds like its grasping for air or maybe its getting too much air i cant tell but it laggs when go WOT. am I lean or rich on the main?

your carbs are untouched right???  And you have an aftermarket exhasut???  you're lean.  Contact Srinath and see if he's settled in enough to send you a 'jet kit'

mach1

they are rejetted check my sig for the exact sizes I used BTW im at sea level. my slip-on is an open can, I cut off the baffles.

Ehhhh,  OK, you're probably a little rich.  those jets sound more apt to a full system and lunchbox.   Try dropping both your mid main and main down 1-2 sizes.

mach1

what does the mid jet control. I know the pilot is for idle and the main is for cracking open the throttle.

mid-main jet is going to be the closest for adjusting your mid range   5k is in the mid range.  If you have shims on your needles drop em down if you're rich that'll lean it up, particularly in the mid range

mach1

I dont have any shims on the needles. What is the next size down from 65? bikebandit say its a 60 but i though I saw a 62.5.

isnt that the stock size? my jetting prior to my present was 60 mid and 142.5 main with stock air box and slipon. then I added the pods and the bigger main 145 and a 65 and it the plugs showed i was too lean so i went to a 147.5 or 147 what ever my sig says and I have no flat spots liek I did before, no idle hang but I do have a lag when I get on it. so should I leave the mid as is and go down a size on the main? what about my mixture screw cant I close that a little and see if it leans me out?

that's stock sizing
yeah, you can try messing with the mix screw.

The jets control fuel flow based on throttle opening, not RPM.  WOT will always be affected by the main jet, no matter what RPM.

The mix screw is for adjusting the mixture at idle.  It won't do jack or s*1t at WOT.

Terry, you seem to be making stuff up, or you're posting while drunk, give the poor guy a break.

mach1, wait for some more sober answers before you go messing up your jetting worse.

spc

OK, here's the crappy answer.  Your valves are jacked up.  end of story.  But it could be your jetting, unless you've paid very close attention to exact RPM in every gear and put some concerted effort in to diagnosing this.  So yeah,  you can try the $8 answer that might work or you can bring your bike to the shop and get raped while they adjust your valves.  Whatever.

Im shure it will power up [...]

Are you saying that GS500 can do power wheelie when 14T sprocket is installed??
I have 14T sprocket (ordered 15T and 14T two weeks ago) but I haven't tried 14T yet. I wanted to get used to 15T before I go to 14.

Can anybody confirm that our little GS can do power wheelie with 14T front sprocket??

I've read this thread couple of months ago. Thanks anyway.
I think I'll pass wheelies. I considered pros and cons and it seems to have many more cons than pros... One day I'll buy Yamaha YZ 125 and then I'll play with one wheel  :icon_twisted:
cheers

In sixth gear I do 90 at 8k, Not bad In my opinion. I have also taken it to 100mph at 9 or 9.5k :thumb:

Dropping the bike and damaging it and yourself are the things that most people consider cons.  I know, you can do that anytime but the chances increase when you limit yourself to only one wheel touching the ground.  There is also the increased chance for run ins with Johnny Law if they see you one-wheeling it on the streets or parking lots.  Then there is the general negative connotation that almost everyone other than motorcyclists (and even some motorcyclists) associate with wheeling on the street, and apply to all sport riding.  This last one really only applies if you wheelie on public roads/in traffic/etc.

I'm not against wheelies mind you, but I usually reserve them for rich kids that can afford to fix their bikes when they drop them.  I knew a guy in undergrad who had a Honda Hawk that used to wheelie a lot on public roads.  He used to race dirtbikes and was really good at it.  He put his down on a highway while doing one at 65 mph.  I remember seeing the rash on his legs from the fall.  It's too bad because it was a nice bike.  I think he totalled it out, though I don't really recall.

Thanks, thats about 145kms/h. It's not very often that I get up to that speed, so it all sounds good. I'll get mine put on next week, along with a new back tyre.  :thumb:
