Well everyone i hate to say it, but im pretty sure my gs500 bit the dust this wednesday.

I was heading eastbound on a suburb street and a car stopped at stop sign, didnt see me, and pulled out in front of my and i slammed into the side of the minivan, immediately rendering me unconcious until about a half hour later.

Now for the good news: My worst injury was the concusiion i suffered, and some road rash on my knee thru my jeans. my helmets toast, but my jacket and gloves look re-useable.

I am  still in a good bit of pain/stiffness. but for those of you out there that cast better judgement to the wind..... DONT


you never know when a soccer mom will cut you off with 10 feet for you to stop.


quite possibly the most uncomfortable 36 hrs of my life. so take it from me. wear the gear you spent 300 dollars on. theres no excuse not to.\

Is this your first time riding ?
Will you ride again ?
Are you covered for the medical bills and the bike ?
How's the family unit taking it ?

Come on man, fill us in. I understand this may have been a life changing (or ending) accident, but please fill in the board with pictures (if you don't mind) and your take on what others should do to help prevent another accident. Shots of your bike and gear may save a kid's (or old geezers') life.

always wear your gear.... here is a friend's bike that crash this past weekend.....in an S curve....down a 10 ft deep slop[e over the side of the road, hit a rain gulley... tossed from bike.... but he's fine, thanks to his jacket/helmet/gloves and boots.....

Wow glad you are ok, this kind of stuff is happening way too much these days. People have too many distractions in there cars, hell it doesnt seem like they are building cars just for driving anymore. They should make cagers take the MSF classes to see what motorcyclist have to face everyday. Take care

fortunately for me ( even though you should never immediately admit fault) the lady that pulled out in front of my admitted fault to the cops and to the paramedics so she got the ticket and her insurance is gona get dinged for my med bills the bike, gear, clothes that got cut off of me, missed work impound fees etc.

yea id love to ride again, unfortunately after lying in a hospitol bed with no pain meds(cuz they hadnt gotten the ct scans back yet so no one knew if i was bleeding internally or not thus needing immediate surgery) i decided that me consistently riding a motorcycle around at this point in my life is just not financially responsible right now. sure ive had some close calls, but that lady could have left me in the streetto die if she was some sort of scumbag, and not the obviously shaken and concerned woman that she (thankfully) was. I'd actually like to contact her after all of this( i cant right now for insurance purposes) and tell her that im ok. according to the cops and the paramedics, she was loosing it, im sure she thought she killed me

parental units were pretty freaked, i called my mom first from the er, so she was ok (until later) because i called her and talked to her and i was calm and collected and coherent(i play alot of cards so my acting fine/lieing about myself came naturally haha). unfortunately as soon as she called my dad she started bawling and lost it. my grandma lost it when i called her too. theyre glad im ok, and extra thankful that i had my gear on. you would be amazed at how fast the hospital staff wanted to write me off as a typical motorcycle accident, u could hear it in their voice when they asked if i was wearing a helmet.


ill probably hop on a friends cbr to get over the fear. it sounds silly but riding shotgun with my mom from the hospital back to campus every intersection made me nervous, instantly scanning both ways and behind us and looking for something to cut us off or come out of no where. sucks, but thats just what happens after an accident like that. no it wasnt my first time riding, but ive only been riding since early june. put about 2000 miles on the bike so far. pretty much daily to class and work and quick joy rides etc.

pictures are def on their way, ive yet to see the bike since i was unconcious from impact to ambulance, and my gear is at my parents house. but dont worry, ill get it here eventually.

def changes your perspective on things when i realized that had i not worn my helmet. my friends and family would be at my funeral today/tomarrow.

glad your ok dude  a week after i got my first bike this guy/girl in a tahoe ran a stop sign and cut me off at 50mph, luckily stopped a few inches from his door - he never saw me at all. after that i told myself theres no way im riding without minimum jacket gloves helmet and boots. now im used to people cutting me off and their pathetic "sorry" wave

^ That's if they don't flip you off like it was your fault; assholes!  I know what you're feeling man, I couldn't use the bathroom by myself for almost 3 weeks after my wreck.  It's kinda humbling when I love YOU's holding your stuff while you go.  It's all part of the game though, gotta get back on one or you'll be scared forever.  Good thing her insurance payed, you wouldn't want to be stuck with a 12 thousand dolar helicopter ride to pay for like me

I've wrecked in my Icon twice lol.  I don't make a point of wearing it though.  Still, it's not much more than some scuffs.  That last wreck was like 8 months ago though.

ive even been told that if you drop it, or it rolls off of a couch or table that you should replace it, so actually having an accident in it is def the end of its life.

just a trophy now, and something to remind me to wear it every time.

i think its like from 4ft it not good anymore, mine fell off my bike and i still use it. check out the scorpion 1000 thats a nice helmet.

Definitely replace your helmet even if a few scrapes. Mine had like 4 1/4th inch scrapes besides my visor rash but i knew i had a severe impact when i crashed because my head hurt for a few days after on the side i hit.

insurance will take care of you. just be safe. I lowsided my bike into a minivan when one ran the yield at a u-turn intersection a while back. (Lamar and 183 in austin for those who know the area)




as you can see, it ruined my fresh paint job.

I wore all my gear, and walked away with quite a bit of stiffness, some bruising and some road rash. The way I slid the bike down, the minivan managed to clip my left boot and give me a hell of a bruise on my ankle, as well as run over my front forks, but surprisingly did not damage them (i rode around on them for the past 2 months). I turned in all of my gear to insurance, and they quickly cut a check for property damage. I now have a new alpinestars jacket and gloves, and a nice scorpion helmet (as opposed to my old joe rocket and kbc tk-8).

I would inspect your bike at the impound lot carefully to see what it takes to get it back on the road. typically, it can be done for significantly less than what they give you when they total, so the salvage cost is well worth it, if the bike is cheap to fix.

Same, although I always wonder if I'm a bad motorcyclist for feeling that way - squiddies are bikers too, right?  But after having lowsided on the highway in gear and having to wait a couple weeks to get my bike back I've been just mad/jealous of gear-less people who ride around without a care in the world on bikes without a scratch on them.

Glad your ok man! Everybody round here looks at me like I'm retarded when I put all my gear on just to ride down the street to the store.
