Bee stings - Do you carry goo ?

Since moving to Tampa and riding everywhere there is a gas station, I've noticed two things in particular:

1) humidity sucks
2) wearing gear with humidity and being stung by whatever sucks alot more

Last year I was stung twice. This year there have been three stings in the last six months. This mornings sting was a two-fer:

Cruising down on Sydney road towards Plant City at about 45-50mph I saw my nemesis. It flew out of a grove of mature oaks, heading for the strawberry fields. There was absolutely no reason for this course of travel other than to annoy ME. The strawberries will be quite a while still. There aren't any green shoots up yet even !

There he is, looking like a mad spinning quarter smacked by a hockey goalie. I leaned in and got under the flyscreen, but he saw my move. His last nano second correction meant he could spin in the eddie and smack me on the neck -just- under my helmet.


POOOOOOW !

"At least that wasn't a be......" I thought.

NOthing in my mirrors, check the blindspot... E-BRAKE..

Rip the helmet off, beat my neck like a lunatic, helemt, glasses, earphones, cellphone all go flying on the ground. Dammit !  Why do they hate me ?

I walked the 100 or so feet back to my skid mark and didn't find a body. Had I, I think I would have tossed the bastard down the Vance & Hines and let him cook a while.

so anyway, you get the point.

What do you carry to ease the sting those little bastards inject ?

I have never been stung, yet. Although, i did find a hornet wedged b/w my arm and wrist strap- i un-velcro the strap and it flies away

first time i got stung on a bike i was around 7 or so...no big deal unless it is in the face area

I had a couple of friends (riding two up) stopped at a set of lights and the pillion got a wasp up in his helmet after he had opened the visor as the lights. As they set off he cudn't get the wasp out and it stung him three times on the face (i guess it felt trapped and started stinging right left and centre) the pillion was fighting to get his helmet off and shook the bike and they fell of just a few hundred meters after setting off from the lights. Bike was smashed up but they were all ok, much better for getting the wasp out of the helmet tho and they lived for another day.

I noticed that today! Every time I stopped a yellow jacket started frolicking around me. I was afraid he was going to go for the soft exposed neck.

Funny. Just yesterday I had a bee crawling up my arm while cruising through town... I just flicked it off.

I haven't been bitten/stung while riding, but came close. Two times this year I've closed my helmet visor, only to realize I trapped a wasp inside with me. The first time I totally flipped out, E-braked and moved to the side of the road ... and took my helmet off... No doubt I looked like a lunatic to other motorists. The second time I opened my visor again and turned my head, the wind took the little critter.

At the rate you get stung ohgood, I would bring some afterbite or whatever it's called.

Apparently my avatar is going to have something to do with a kitten and / or a hornet.

Just a little swelling now. It's not so much the sting as the 'wtf !' while I'm riding. I've slammed trees, rocks, chicken wire -covered- wooden bridges, other mtb's, one lincoln, one mercedes, one blazer (hit n run) , and multiple dogs/cats on my pedal bikes. All it really did was piss me off.

Bees are different. They're like squirrels, but way closer and they can STING !

I got stung in my clutch wrist during a ride with a friend.  It just flew in my sleeve while I was riding at  cruising speed.  It sucked.  I flashed my brights (our agreed-upon "I'd like to stop" signal) and he rode on another 50 miles or so after not noticing.  But my wrist still barely fit in my jacket so we finished the trip.  Ow.

Girlfriend and I took our dog for a walk yesterday on a local trail ... Met a nice lady walking her own, so we stopped to talk and the two of our dogs got to playing... I heard a "yelp" from my little one... turned out one of the dogs stepped in a nest, and stirred up a whole heap of trouble... So we ran... Girlfriend and I got away unscathed thanks to our hoodies... but the lady got bitten 4 times at least, dogs were bleeding and probably got bit a dozen times each. Worst is, wasps were caught in their fur and needed to be picked out... argh.

I have only been stung once while riding my old 250 scoot, in mid August '06.
I was stung on the back of my neck, a wasp I think, since it didn't hurt too much and it left no needle (...or what the hell is its name in English, too lazy to fetch the vocabulary right now ) on me. Otherwise, it would've been a bee I suppose. No big deal, after all.

Another time a few week ago, after I had passed the ticket booth entering the motorway, I had just closed my helmet's front mouthpiece when I noticed  a wasp (again) looking around cautiously this side of the visor.
So I slowly flipped up open the mouthpiece again, the bug seemed to fly away but I pulled over to make sure it had gone. It did.

So at least now I know I have no intolerance against these bugs' venom.

I carry an epi-pen. No, I'm not allergic to bees, I just have one for whatever reason...

Why do you have an epi-pen?! You can't even get those here in the UK unless you've got a severe allergy in which you could die without an epi-pen with you.

I wonder, what would happen if you jammed that into your side even if you weren't having a reaction?

Mum just walked past and shes a trained intensive care nurse so i asked. Adrenaline will make your heart rate sky rocket , your mouth will dry and you might feel .... weird - thats a technical term lol. But unless you are weak hearted etc... you shouldn't be harmed at all. Epi-Pen's don't cure allgies they speed your heart rate up to counteract the histamine reaction that makes the throat and body swell and heart rate slow.
