IRC Road Winner RX-01 $68.37 for the stock size. handles really well and isnt wearing the tread as bad as the avons

I've got this tire.  I like it.  Good tread design and is pretty sticky.  Mine wore out in about 5000 miles, but I did ride around for quite a while with really low air pressure in the tires.  Stupid move on my part because now the side walls are cracked all to hell.  The front tire would be good for another 5000 probably if it wasn't for the cracking.  The rear flattened out in the center quite a bit, but I do mostly commuting (and I rode on it half flat forever).  Check your tire pressure often.  I didn't realize mine had dropped so much until I noticed the wear on the tire.  When I checked it, both tires were at less than 20 lbs.  I felt like a fool because I pretty much wasted two good tires.  I'm considering replacing them with the same tires, and just keeping them aired up correctly.

good to hear unfortunately all too late though.  I just got some sport demons in and they look nice.  Can't wait to ride around in the rain now. :icon_rolleyes:

i had to replace the avons because when the tempature reached 114 here this passed summer i slammed on the brakes trying to avoid atruck pulling a trailer in my lane. i was only doing thirty and with the heat i didnt think that my tire would lock up like it  did. needless to say with only 2,000 miles on the rear tire i had to replace it because it wore straight through to the threads. but from what i read about the IRC it does really well in the cooler climates. and thats good because here its starting to get down to the 40's at night and thats when i would be riding back and forth to work. plus all the moisture on the road

Locking the rear wheel is usually rider error and not tire error, been there and done that too.   :laugh:  Time to master that excellent GS rear brake, it's a good one.  Almost like having dual fronts when well used.   :thumb:

You don't say which Avon you had, but it's hard to imagine a RX-01 would wear longer.  It's a good tire for the price but it's not known for long life.  My local dealer sells the Avon Roadrider for $73 and the BT45 B'stone for $78 in the 130/70 size.  There's a lot of good choices for bargain priced tires for the GS.

I've used a couple Metz Z2 rears and the Avon AV36 and AV46 rears in sport touring radials and find a Roadrider bias rear I just put on to be a very good tire for the price.  It's much better than the square when new shape of the Avon AM52 I also tried.
407,400 miles in 30 years for 13,580 miles/year average.  Started riding 7/21/84 and hung up helmet 8/31/14.

im not exactly sure which avon i have to look when i get home. i really didnt even push on the brake lever that hard. infact i didnt even leave a black mark like i thought it would have. there was absolutly no mark but that doens mean that i didnt lock it up but it was one hell of a ride.
