After pouring over maps today looking for that elusive country road with some nice curves and good pavement and finding a couple curvy roads with 6" crowns that made and kind of leaning scary as hell and nothing else other than straight flat roads I am giving up on this area.

Looks like Ann Arbor area might have some decent roads just need to get up that way one weekend with a nice map and go riding. Any of you Ann Arbor folks have some suggestions. I'd rather have tight twisties than fast sweepers if there is a choice. Good Pavement is a must!

Any guys down in the NorthWest side of Ohio have suggestions? I went down 24 towards Napoleon and Indiana but thats like the 80/90 truck detour so they dont have to pay toll route. I'd hate to live along that rode. There are more trucks than cars going down it. Nice road along the river but trucks blow!

On another note any suggestions for track days riding for beginer riders? I'd like to learn to ride better and that seems like a good way but with about 6 different clubs to choose from I dunno who to go with. Looking for lots of good instruction and a nice track to ride on in MI/OH area. Prob Grattan or Gingerman in MI. Mid-Ohio would be great in OH cause I have relatives nearby and could sleep there. Nelson Ledges is a bit far.

Check out CLASS. I plan on one of these later this year.

use your own bike. $300. street oriented but on a fast track. travels to all the major tracks, depends on the date though. Should be a Grattan or Mid-Ohio, you'll have to look.

Lotsa options for track days.
www.trackoholics.com  They have one at Grattan coming up on the 18th of Sept.  I've never run with them but their flyer looks like they are pretty reasonable ~$125 to 150 depending on when you sign up.
Sport Bike Track Time is another.  I did one of their days last year & it was a bit more expensive.  I signed up on the day so I got hit with a late charge, but still it was somewhere near $200 for the day after paying for their "license" etc.
Fasttrax does a rider's school on Fridays before their race weekends that look pretty good.  I've never run their school, but I've raced with them & they seem a pretty good organization.  Fasttrax will be at Grattan on the 29th of August.  I understand their school is $175.  www.fastone.com
Also, you could pick up a copy of Roadracing World & look in their calendar section.  It's pretty comprehensive.
Go do it!  Do it one time & you'll be hooked for life!!   :thumb:

Oh, yeah, one more thing.  SE MI roads really do blow...
Try going up to Pinckney/Hell area.  There's a buncha lakes & some moderately twisty roads.  Be careful of going too fast though, because 'ol Plod knows all the scooter pilots go to that area to blast around the twisties.
Other than that there's not much.  If you're used to twisty mountain roads or something, you're not gonna be satisfied with much of anything in Michigan...  Most people I know try to get down to Kentucky & the Carolinas & such as much as possible.
Road trip!!

Yep I used to live in the foothills in SC and loved it with the car. Didnt get a bike till I moved back up here.

Sucks having to ride all day to find some nice roads.

Southeast Ohio has some nice twisties. If you have relatives near Mid-Ohio maybe you could check them out!

Yep When we went down there we rode around loudinsville (sp?) and around the lake there with Mohecan Lodge and all that. Nice roads not a lot of traffic and good tight twisties with elevation changes. Bad thing is I couldnt get back to where we road to save my life. My uncle was lead bike and knew the area.

There are some pretty cool twisties here in KY. I love riding down the trace through LBL(Land Between the Lakes), the north end especially. There are many side roads off of the trace as well. Downside, lots of deer. Oh well, can't have it all and they of course are out more at night over there.

If you ever find yourself in Ohio let me know. I have a friend that I ride with alot (he just bought a SV1000) and he really knows the roads. [/list]
